Travel Tips for Chengdu

Best Time to Visit

Chengdu is suitable for travel year-round, with mild, humid weather and changing seasonal scenery.

  • March–June & September–November (Spring & Autumn): Comfortable temperatures, fewer sunny days, but beautiful blossoms like pear, peach, rapeseed, and azalea in spring; golden ginkgo and fiery red leaves in autumn.

  • July–August (Summer): Hot and humid. Head to nearby cool spots like Mount Qingcheng, Dujiangyan, Jiulong Valley (Jiǔlóng Gōu, 九龙沟), Jiufeng Mountain, Tiantai Mountain, and Longchi Forest Park.

  • December–February (Winter): Cold but rarely snowy, with temps just below zero. Great time to combine Chengdu with snowy destinations like Jiuzhaigou (九寨沟) or Xiling Snow Mountain (Xīlǐng Xuěshān, 西岭雪山).

What to Wear

  • Summer: Light clothes like T-shirts and shorts, but be prepared for humidity.

  • Winter: Bundle up with thick coats, long pants, scarf, gloves, and hats, as the damp chill makes it feel colder.
