Plan at a glance
Choosing a pier and ticket type
The Min River Night Cruise has several piers, vessel types, seat classes and routes. If you buy a standard ticket departing from Taijiang Tourist Pier (Min River Heart), plan around that pier's sailing times and boarding rules. The Yantai Mountain Cruise Pier and Xing Shun Pier serve other products, so do not combine them into one universal boarding point.
Taijiang Tourist Pier is usually reached on foot from Dadao Station. Common sailings run between 19:00 and 21:00, and one cruise lasts about 40–60 minutes. Standard tickets are usually about CNY 80–128, while new-energy luxury boats are about CNY 138–158; some second-deck seating has a surcharge of about CNY 30. Student discounts and some free-ticket schemes depend on the specific product.
Suggested time and visitor fit
For a 19:30 sailing from Taijiang Pier, allow about 2 hours from arrival through disembarkation and a walk around Min River Heart. If you also want Shangxiahang, Yantai Mountain or dinner on the same day, allow 4–5 hours. The cruise suits visitors who want riverside night views, families with older adults or children, and relaxed photography, but it should not be treated as a guaranteed light show or weather-independent transport.

Buildings and bridges from the river
From the boat, the main views are the buildings on both banks, bridges and city lights. Zhongzhou Island, Jiefang Bridge and Gushan Bridge are among the easier landmarks to recognise. The strength of the lighting, the route position and the views available depend on the vessel, weather and operating arrangements that evening.
Cabin, second deck and seat choice
Seats on the lower deck suit visitors who want shelter from the wind, commentary and a stable place to sit. The open second deck has a wider view but limited capacity, and some seats may require an earlier claim or an extra charge. If photography is important, check whether your ticket includes second-deck access; buying a cruise ticket does not guarantee an open-deck seat.
When it suits—and when it does not
Couples, families and night-view photographers usually get the most from the cruise. Visitors who dislike wind, get seasick or do not want to follow a fixed sailing can walk along the Min River instead. The riverside path shows some of the lights but does not replace the cruise or guarantee the full route view.
Build your day
A quick route from Taijiang Pier
Leave Dadao Station through Exit C and walk about 10 minutes to Taijiang Tourist Pier. Arrive before the sailing on your ticket, complete ticket checks and board; after the 40–60 minute cruise, walk around Min River Heart, return to the metro or continue to a nearby meal.
Arrive at least 15 minutes early. Ticket queues, temporary security checks or difficulty finding the boarding entrance can cause a late arrival to miss the boat. When buying the ticket, record the pier name, sailing time and the direction of your return journey at the same time.
Combining Shangxiahang, sunset and the cruise
In the afternoon, visit Shangxiahang Historic District, then go to Zhongzhou Island or the riverside for sunset before returning to Taijiang Tourist Pier. Walking through Shangxiahang and boarding at Taijiang Pier are separate parts of the plan; being near the river does not remove the walking and waiting time between them.
After the cruise, you can eat or have a late snack around Laoyaozhou Street or Min River Heart. Choose the specific restaurant and night-view stop according to that day's opening hours, weather and crowd levels.
A separate Yantai Mountain variant
If your ticket departs from Yantai Mountain Cruise Pier, travel toward Yantai Mountain from Shangteng Station and follow that product's sailing time and boarding instructions. A Yantai Mountain departure may use a different route from Taijiang Pier, so do not apply Taijiang's route, schedule or ticket price to it.
Get there
Metro, bus and the correct pier
Taijiang Tourist Pier is about a 10-minute walk from Dadao Station on Metro Line 1, Exit C. The Yantai Mountain pier is reached from the Shangteng Station area. Buses can stop at Taijiang Square or Min River Heart, but the correct walking route depends on the pier shown on your ticket.
For a taxi, enter the exact pier name from your booking rather than searching only for “Min River Night Cruise.” The piers are not interchangeable, and changing piers at the last minute can make you miss the sailing.
Driving and parking
Possible parking options near Taijiang Pier include the Taijiang Pier car park, the underground car park at Dongbai Yuanhong City and the underground car park at Min River Heart. Some have short-stay discounts, but spaces can still be limited at night. If you do not need to carry bulky luggage, the metro or a taxi makes the check-in time easier to control.
Know before you go
Tickets, sailings and weather
Buy in advance online or through the “Two Rivers and Four Banks Cruise” mini program. Walk-up tickets may cost more or sell out. Student discounts, free university-student tickets, tea or entertainment content and second-deck surcharges are product-specific; check exactly what is included when you book.
Cruises may still operate in rain, but the deck experience will be affected. Wind is stronger on the river than on the bank, so bring a light jacket. If you are prone to seasickness, prepare motion-sickness medicine, and switch to a riverside walk if there is strong wind, heavy rain or physical discomfort.
Boarding and photography
Second-deck space is limited, and arriving early cannot guarantee access if your ticket does not include that area. Keep hold of your phone and belongings when taking photos, and do not lean over the railings or block passageways for a better view at night.
The cruise mainly offers riverside lights and a view from the water. Light shows, tea service, dancing and other entertainment depend on the vessel and sailing that day. Do not describe a performance or lighting effect seen on one evening as fixed content on every sailing.
