How to Visit
1

Go in the afternoon for city views

Piled Silk Hill works well in the afternoon, especially if you want to climb to Mingyue Peak for views of Guilin city and the Li River.

Tip:The adult ticket is CNY 25, and opening hours are usually longer in the warmer season.
2

Enter from the South Gate

For a first visit, enter from the South Gate. Visit Diecai Pavilion and Wind Cave first, then climb to Mingyue Peak and Nayun Pavilion for views of the city, Li River bends, and nearby hills.

Tip:This route covers the most useful sights without too much backtracking.
3

Make Mingyue Peak the main climb

Mingyue Peak is the most worthwhile summit point. The hill is not very high, but the route is all steps.

Tip:Do not rush in summer or after rain.
4

Check Xianhe Peak access on arrival

Xianhe Peak has had a temporary closure notice recently. If it is still closed when you visit, focus on Wind Cave, the inscriptions, and Mingyue Peak instead.

Tip:Do not wait around for sunset at a closed section.
5

Continue into a city-center route

After coming down, continue to Fubo Mountain, Dongxi Lane, or the Li River waterfront.

Tip:Piled Silk Hill does not need a full day; 1.5-2.5 hours is usually comfortable.
Highlights
  • Mingyue Peak gives a broad view of how Guilin's hills, river, and city fit together.
  • Wind Cave is distinctive and noticeably cool in summer, with stone inscriptions inside and around the cave.
  • Nayun Pavilion is useful for photographing the Li River, Fubo Mountain, and the city skyline, especially on clear days.
  • Piled Silk Hill feels more like a light city climb than Elephant Hill, good for travelers who want a little hiking without leaving downtown.
  • The ticket is inexpensive, and the hill pairs well with Fubo Mountain or Duxiu Peak for a city-view route.
Insider Tips

Light is softer after 4 pm, but do not enter too late. Night lighting is limited, and descending steps after dark is inconvenient.

Bring a bottle of water, as there are not many supply points on the hill.

After rain, steps and cave entrances can be slippery; shoes with grip matter more than photo-friendly footwear.

Long-distance views depend heavily on weather. Heavy mist can reduce the value of climbing to the top.

If you already climbed Duxiu Peak the same day, choose between Piled Silk Hill and Fubo Mountain instead of forcing all three city hills into one route.
