West Anhui Rift Valley is in Taipingqiao Village, Zhangdian Town, Jin'an District, Lu'an. Set navigation to the “West Anhui Rift Valley” visitor centre. Driving from Hefei takes about 1.5 hours. The scenic-area car park has a reference rate of CNY 10 per day, and the mountain road before the entrance has many bends; visitors prone to motion sickness should prepare in advance. Public transport is possible from Lu'an South Coach Station by taking a minibus towards Maotanchang, which takes about 30 minutes, but confirm the day's services and return transport.
This is not a flat woodland trail. The main experience is continuous climbing through a narrow V-shaped rift. Allow about 2–3 hours for the full route and 1.5–2 hours for the shorter route. Sections such as Yixiantian (一线天) and the Three Gates require a vertical ladder or hand-and-foot climbing, so visitors with reduced mobility or who are not comfortable climbing should choose another type of visit.
Tickets, opening hours and the day's arrangements
The reference on-site ticket is CNY 60; some online platforms list about CNY 58. Half-price and free-entry rules for older visitors, students and children follow the proof required on the day, and advance booking is usually not needed. Common opening hours are 08:00–18:00, while some platforms show 08:30–17:30, so confirm the day's arrangement before setting out.
The full route starts around the entrance bamboo grove and waterfall, then continues through the adventure walkway, the Three Gates, Yixiantian and the summit section before descending on foot or by the separately charged glass slide. The reference glass-slide price is CNY 30 per person, and it is optional rather than required transport. Narrow sections such as Yixiantian can become congested on public holidays; a weekday or the first entry period in the morning usually makes it easier to keep moving.

The full route: bamboo grove, Three Gates and summit
The full route includes the entrance bamboo grove, the entrance waterfall, the adventure walkway below the waterfall and the continuous climbing sections of the Three Gates. The first gate uses a vertical metal ladder, the second is Yixiantian with a very narrow passage, and the third is steeper and usually requires both hands and feet. After crossing the rift, continue to the summit; the complete experience takes about 2–3 hours.
This route suits visitors who accept continuous climbing and want a more physical outdoor experience. After rain or during the wetter season, mist around the entrance waterfall is more noticeable, but rock surfaces, steps and rift sections are also more slippery. If you only want an easy walk, the core rift routes may not be suitable.
The short route: the core rift and summit
With less time or energy, focus on Yixiantian, the Three Gates and the views from the summit in the core rift area; allow about 1.5–2 hours. You can walk back down on the trail or choose the separately charged glass slide according to your energy and what is operating that day.
The glass slide is an optional paid activity. Without it, you can descend on the open trail. Confirm its operation, price and queue before choosing it.
Who it suits: outdoor visitors who enjoy climbing
West Anhui Rift Valley is better suited to visitors who enjoy an outdoor challenge, couples, younger travellers and families looking for a physical activity for children. The core sections are narrow and steep, and queues may form at Yixiantian when visitor numbers are high.
Older visitors with reduced mobility, people wearing unsuitable clothing or shoes, and anyone who only wants a flat sightseeing walk should consider the route's physical demands first. Families should also consider the child's height, climbing ability and the crowd level that day before entering the Three Gates; the overall visit time alone does not show how demanding the route is.

The full route: a 2–3-hour rift climb
Enter from the visitor centre → walk through the bamboo grove → pass the entrance waterfall and the adventure walkway below it → enter the Three Gates → climb through narrow sections such as Yixiantian → cross the rift and reach the summit → descend on foot or take the separately charged glass slide according to the day's arrangements. The route is mainly climbing and steps, with the Three Gates and summit section requiring the most effort.
After rain, look at the condition of the rock surfaces and steps before deciding whether to complete the route. If the glass slide is closed or you do not want to pay extra, use the trail; it is an optional activity and does not change the walking route. Holiday queues at Yixiantian can make the actual visit longer than 2–3 hours.
The short route: a 1.5–2-hour core-area visit
Enter from the visitor centre → head to the core rift → focus on Yixiantian and the Three Gates → climb to the summit viewpoint → walk back down, or choose the glass slide after confirming that it is operating. A weekday morning is usually better for this shorter route; afternoon visitors should first confirm the final-entry time and the day's downhill activity arrangements.
If someone in your group is not suited to continuous climbing, you can visit only the entrance waterfall and the gentler front section of the trail. Before descending, choose between walking and the slide according to your energy and the weather, and leave enough time to return to the visitor centre.
Combine it with Dabie Mountains Grottoes: self-drive and separate tickets
Dabie Mountains Grottoes is close to West Anhui Rift Valley, so the two can be combined in one day by car. Each has its own visitor centre, ticket and route. If the rift visit takes longer than expected, there may not be enough time to complete the full route at the second scenic area.
With limited time, choose one: West Anhui Rift Valley for narrow passages, ladders and continuous climbing; Dabie Mountains Grottoes for natural grottoes and lake views with less climbing. The two sites require separate arrival and return planning, with no walking connection inside the scenic areas.

Drive to the West Anhui Rift Valley visitor centre
Set navigation to the “West Anhui Rift Valley” visitor centre. The drive from Hefei takes about 1.5 hours. The car park has a reference rate of CNY 10 per day, with spaces subject to the arrangement on the day. The mountain road has many bends, so visitors prone to motion sickness may want to bring motion-sickness medication and allow more driving time.
West Anhui Rift Valley and Dabie Mountains Grottoes work as a nearby self-drive combination, but they do not share tickets or parking arrangements. If you visit both on the same day, navigate to each visitor centre separately and leave time for the second entrance and visit after driving from the first.
Take a minibus from Lu'an South Coach Station
From Lu'an South Coach Station, take a minibus towards Maotanchang; the ride to the West Anhui Rift Valley area takes about 30 minutes. Bus frequency, the drop-off point and the return vehicle can affect the day, so confirm both directions before travelling. If you plan to complete the climbing route, the return trip is usually less flexible by public transport than by car.
Inside the scenic area, the Three Gates, Yixiantian and the summit section are reached on foot; there is no cableway or scenic shuttle to replace the climbing. The glass slide is only a separately charged downhill option, and its operation, ticketing and queue time follow the day's arrangement.
Know before you go
Wet rock, narrow passages and climbing gear
Some sections of the valley have dripping water, and rock surfaces, ladders and steps become more slippery after rain. Wear grippy, well-covered sports shoes and bring a raincoat or waterproof jacket. Flip-flops, high heels and skirts are unsuitable for the core climbing sections. Move slowly through Yixiantian and the Three Gates, and do not stop for photos in a narrow passage.
Continuous climbing affects your energy more than the overall size of the scenic area. Visitors with reduced mobility, knee or leg problems, or discomfort in narrow passages can stay around the entrance and front section instead of entering the core rift.
Queues, prices and the actual experience
Yixiantian, the Three Gates and other core sections can become crowded during public holidays, and waiting can add significantly to the visit. Ticket prices, opening hours, concession rules and the glass-slide charge may change on the day. Online tickets may require on-site verification, so confirm the proof needed for any discount ticket before buying.
The main climbing sections are concentrated and the overall route is not very long. If you do not like narrow passages, ladders or continuous climbing, the core route may not suit you; holiday crowds also require extra time for queues.
Nearby stops and food
Fujun Local Restaurant (富军土菜馆) is about a 5-minute walk from West Anhui Rift Valley and can be used for a meal before or after the visit. The reference spend is about CNY 50 per person. Local dishes include stir-fried maocaogen (炒茅草根), whose actual availability depends on the day. Longjingchong (龙井冲), beside Mozitan Reservoir, is suitable for a short lake-view stop during the drive, but it is a separate stop from the scenic-area ticket and route.
Self-drive connection with Dabie Mountains Grottoes
West Anhui Rift Valley and Dabie Mountains Grottoes can form a two-stop self-drive route in Jin'an District, Lu'an. The two scenic areas have separate tickets and entrances, and their step and physical demands are different. Before combining them, check the day's opening hours, parking and actual progress, and leave separate entry and visit time for the second stop.
