How to Visit
1

Make sure this is the Guangxi Museum on Minzu Avenue

It is not the same place as Guangxi Museum of Nationalities. Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Museum is at 34 Minzu Avenue and fits better with a central Nanning route.

Tip:Confusing the two museums can send you to the wrong side of the city.
2

Entry is free, but bring valid ID

The museum is usually open Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 to 17:00 and closed on Monday. Try to enter before 16:00 so you are not rushed by last-entry timing.

Tip:Overseas visitors should bring a passport or other valid identification.
3

Take the metro to Minzu Square Station

Use Line 1 to Minzu Square Station (民族广场站), Exit B, then walk to the museum. This is steadier than taking a taxi into the city center.

Tip:The metro makes this museum easy to combine with other central Nanning stops.
4

Start on the second floor

The Ancient Guangxi Civilization exhibition is the core section, with the bronze drum, bronze phoenix lamp, and large bronze horse among the pieces worth seeing first.

Tip:If your time is short, this floor should come before the temporary exhibits.
5

Add the third floor and first floor if you have time

Continue to the Maritime Silk Road-related displays and temporary exhibitions, then leave a little time for the museum shop or cultural courtyard.

Tip:This order keeps the strongest exhibits first while still leaving room for extras.
Highlights
  • This is the most direct city-center museum for understanding Guangxi's history.
  • The second-floor ancient civilization gallery has the highest concentration of key exhibits.
  • The bronze drum, bronze phoenix lamp, and large bronze horse are easy for first-time visitors to remember.
  • Free entry and metro access make it easy to combine with Three Streets and Two Alleys or a central Nanning route.
  • It is a useful indoor stop on rainy, hot, or lower-energy days.
Insider Tips

Do not confuse it with Guangxi Museum of Nationalities; they are in different parts of Nanning.

Monday closure is the easiest mistake to avoid.

If you only have 1-1.5 hours, go straight to the second-floor core gallery instead of starting slowly from the first floor.

The air conditioning can feel strong, so a light layer is useful even in summer.

Check the on-site guided tour times or rent an audio guide if you want more context.
