Beach, wind turbines, and opening hours
Changjiang'ao is in Pingyuan Town on Pingtan's northern route. Common access points include the Changjiang'ao Wind Farm Scenic Area and Changjiang'ao Beach. The beach and coastal area are free to enter all day, year-round. Beach recreation facilities commonly operate around 08:00-18:00; confirm the individual activities and services on site.
Allow 1-2 hours for a short sunset stop, or use half a day for low-tide beachcombing, the wind-turbine road, and a beach walk. Blue Tears is a seasonal natural phenomenon, not a fixed nighttime program that appears at Changjiang'ao every day.
What kind of visit suits it
Changjiang'ao is good for wind-turbine coastlines, sunsets, and shallow-flat scenery, and it works well as the final stop on a northern route. Families planning to explore the tidal flats should check the tide and on-site safety conditions first. Visitors coming for sunset should allow time for parking, walking, and waiting for the light.

Wind turbines and the coastal sunset
White wind turbines line the coast, and the west side of the beach and wind farm area offer good views of the turbines against the sea. Sunset colors depend on cloud, wind, and visibility; the light may be ordinary when you arrive. Stay according to the actual conditions instead of expecting a particular sky color.
The wind-turbine road is also part of the northern route and works for a short stop while driving or riding. Park in a safe area when taking photos, away from bends and anywhere that would obstruct other vehicles.
Shallow flats after the tide goes out
Low tide may expose relatively flat sand and mudflats. In areas where entry is allowed, visitors can look for shells or small marine life. Plan around the tide table: after the water returns, the flats are covered and rocks become more slippery.
Exploring shallow flats is not the same activity as safe swimming, and conditions are not fixed. Keep children away from the waterline and deeper water. End the activity as soon as the water rises, wind and waves strengthen, or the light becomes insufficient.
Who it suits
Changjiang'ao suits families, photographers, sunset visitors, and anyone wanting an easy sea visit. People staying for nighttime Blue Tears viewing need separate plans for lighting, warmth, and the return. Daytime convenience on the beach cannot be used to plan a nighttime visit without checking the conditions again.
Build your day
Sunset route: about 1-2 hours
Arrive after 16:00. Choose a safe position near the western rocks or wind farm, wait for the sunset according to the day's light, and return afterward. Sunset time and weather change, so finish parking, walking, and finding a viewing position early.
With strong wind, rain, or cloud blocking the view, shorten the stop to a beach walk and return to the county town for a meal. Do not let a hoped-for sunset delay the return until the road is dark or difficult to drive.
Half-day beachcombing and wind-turbine route
Check the low-tide time first. Spend a short period in an open tidal-flat area around low tide, then follow the wind-turbine road toward the west side of the beach for sunset. Leave time between beachcombing and sunset to clean your shoes and socks, move the vehicle, and find parking again.
Beach carts, loungers, umbrellas, and other facilities are priced separately on site. To keep spending down, bring a picnic mat and drinking water and focus on the public beach and wind-turbine scenery.
Nighttime Blue Tears plan
From April to August, use current forecasts to decide whether to stay for nighttime Blue Tears viewing. The time, location, and intensity are unpredictable. Lighting is limited at the beach after dark, so confirm the return vehicle in advance and bring a flashlight, power bank, windproof layer, and shoes with good grip.
If Blue Tears do not appear, end the visit and return. Do not keep driving into remote village roads or dark rock areas in pursuit of an uncertain natural phenomenon.
Get there
Driving and parking
When driving, navigate to "Changjiang'ao Wind Farm Scenic Area" or "Changjiang'ao Parking Lot." Parking is usually available nearby, with charges possibly calculated by hour or by visit. Arrive early on holidays, park first, and then walk to the beach or wind farm.
For viewing and photography, use the parking area or a safe roadside shoulder. Do not stop on bends, on the wind-turbine road, or anywhere that affects traffic. Before leaving at night, check the headlights, phone battery, and route.
High-speed rail, rentals, and taxis
After arriving at Pingtan Station, rent a car, rent an electric scooter, or take a taxi. Electric scooters commonly cost around CNY 60-80 per day and suit visitors with stable weather and a nighttime return plan. Visitors staying in the county town can also take a taxi, but should plan the return in advance.
Nighttime dining options near Changjiang'ao are limited, and the distance from nearby guesthouses to the county town adds return time. For easier dining, return to the county town after sunset; to reduce nighttime travel, prepare food and accommodation in advance.
Know before you go
Tides and coastal safety
Check the tide table before beachcombing and plan a short activity around low tide. The flats flood as the tide rises, and wet rocks are easy to slip on. Wear shoes with good grip, return while there is still enough light, and leave immediately when the water starts coming back.
An open beach does not make every section suitable for swimming or wading. Children should stay away from the waterline. Adults should decide about entering the water according to the wind, waves, and on-site safety notices.
Wind, sun, and spending
The coast is windy, so a hat with a chin cord is useful. Bring a light jacket in the early morning and at night. Loungers, umbrellas, and other facilities cost extra; confirm the price and duration before use, and plan the free beach separately from paid facilities.
Blue Tears may not appear. Paid chase services advertised online or by the roadside as "guaranteed viewing" should not be the basis of the itinerary. Check current weather and recent observations before deciding whether to go; without suitable conditions, finish the visit as a normal beach outing.
