How to Visit
1

Decide separately whether to visit the ruins park or the ancient-city museum.

Ebao Ancient City Ruins Park is a 3A ancient-city ruins attraction. The ruins and the Ancient City Museum are two separate visiting decisions and should be planned independently.

Tip:Do not assume that the ruins park includes the museum, or that the two share tickets, opening hours, or reservation rules.
2

Treat Ebao as a short stop only if same-day road conditions allow.

Review the transport authority's road-control notices on the day of travel before deciding whether to include the ruins and how to enter or leave Ebao.

Tip:The G227 section between Biandukou and Ebao has been closed long term. Do not treat it as an available navigation route, or you may be unable to reach the site or return as planned.
3

Use the permitted onward direction if continuing from Qilian to Zhangye.

The usable written direction is G213/Qilian No. 9 Road via Sunan to Zhangye; the specific road plan for entering or leaving Ebao depends on that day's traffic notices.

Tip:Do not assume a fixed diversion via G0611, Ebao, and S302, as temporary controls can determine whether that itinerary is possible.
4

Explore the ruins according to on-site signs.

Use only permitted parking and walking areas to view the rammed-earth walls, city remains, and surrounding plateau landscape, keeping the stop to a short walk.

Tip:Do not climb earthen walls or enter closed sections. This can damage the ruins and creates a fall risk on loose ground in windy conditions.
5

Confirm museum arrangements separately if you plan to enter.

Use the museum's same-day notices for opening, admission, reservation, and fee information, then decide whether to include it and allow separate time.

Tip:Do not invent or prepay a museum price, and do not extend any ruins-park entry information to the museum.
Highlights
  • As a 3A ancient-city ruins attraction, it works as a historical short stop during a plateau drive.
  • Rammed-earth walls and surviving city remains provide a view of Ebao as an old transport node in a frontier landscape.
  • The ruins walk and museum visit can be selected separately, which suits time-limited self-drive itineraries.
  • The old city remains, grassland, and snowy mountain backdrop give the stop a different focus from a purely natural attraction.
Insider Tips

Make road access the first priority: the G227 section between Biandukou and Ebao is closed long term, so old guides and default navigation cannot replace same-day traffic notices.

Do not infer tickets, opening hours, or reservation arrangements between the ruins park and museum. If there is no clear same-day notice, do not put that visit into a fixed timetable.

Plan arrival in daylight and leave time for road controls, snow, wind, or slow high-altitude driving. Do not assume walking routes or services will remain available after dark.

The area is at high altitude. Walk slowly even for short distances, and carry warm, windproof, sun-protective clothing and water.

Do not treat Ebao as a place that requires a long stay. If roads, weather, or physical condition are unsuitable, keep the ruins stop brief or skip it.
