How to Visit
1

Arrive before sunset and start from East Nanjing Road side

Use East Nanjing Road Station (南京东路站) to begin from the busiest postcard section. This gives you daylight river views first, then city lights after dusk.

Sunset to blue hour is the strongest window for photos
2

Walk north toward Waibaidu Bridge

Follow the promenade along the Huangpu River and continue toward Waibaidu Bridge (外白渡桥). This section gives layered views of both historic facades and the Lujiazui skyline.

Stay on the river side for cleaner sight lines
3

Add one quieter bridge photo stop

If central platforms are crowded, cross toward North Bund viewpoints or detour to Zhapu Road Bridge (乍浦路桥) for less crowded framing.

These points are usually calmer than the main Bund terrace
4

End with a transport backup plan

During holiday peaks, metro operations near the Bund may change by time block. Keep Tiantong Road Station (天潼路站) or Yuyuan Garden Station (豫园站) as backup exits.

Do not rely on one station only during major holidays
Highlights
  • Historic Bund architecture facing Shanghai's modern skyline
  • Classic sunset-to-night transition over the Huangpu River
  • Waibaidu Bridge (外白渡桥) and North Bund viewpoints for wider framing
  • Easy citywalk link to East Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street
  • Strong first-stop orientation point for a Shanghai itinerary
Insider Tips

If the main platform is packed, shift north for more breathing room and cleaner shots

Weekends and public holidays can be extremely crowded after 17:00

For taxi pickup, walk slightly inland toward Beijing East Road (北京东路) instead of waiting right on the waterfront

Bring a light outer layer in spring and autumn; river wind can feel colder than street level

Pair The Bund with East Nanjing Road in one continuous evening route
