Yucha Grand Canyon (雨岔大峡谷, Yǔchà Dà Xiágǔ)

Yucha Grand Canyon

When you hear “Antelope Canyon,” you might first think of Arizona, USA, with its red rock walls and flowing shapes that captivate travelers worldwide. But Yucha Grand Canyon in Ganquan, Yan’an, rivals it in beauty. Millions of years ago, intense earthquakes and ongoing erosion by rain sculpted this hidden gorge deep within the Loess Plateau.

Inside the canyon, you’ll also find the stunning Longzhou Danxia (龙洲丹霞, Lóngzhōu Dānxiá), often called the “Jingbian Wave Valley” for its resemblance to the famous Wave Valley in the American West. This formation, carved from sandstone over millions of years by wind, water, and time, looks like a carefully polished jade from afar.

Hukou Waterfall (壶口瀑布, Húkǒu Pùbù)

Hukou Waterfall

Hukou Waterfall is China’s largest yellow waterfall, where the Yellow River narrows at the banks like the mouth of a pot—hence the name. The waterfall boasts eight spectacular scenes: mist rising from the water, boats navigating dry land, rainbows dancing on the spray, mountains towering like the sea, sun-drenched rain, thunder in drought, inverted ice peaks, and the ten-mile Dragon Trough. In winter, the frozen Yellow River forms an incredible ice bridge. For capturing its grandeur, don’t forget a wide-angle lens!

Guanshan Grassland (关山草原, Guānshān Cǎoyuán)

Guanshan Grassland

Northwest China often conjures images of barren deserts and vast Gobi landscapes, but Guanshan Grassland offers a refreshing change. Located near Gansu, its terrain resembles the Alps of Central Europe. The area features mountains, rivers, grasslands, and canyons. Cattle and horses graze leisurely under endless blue skies, creating a fresh, natural vibe. It’s a rare scenic spot in Northwest China perfect for artsy, nature-inspired photography.

Xi’an Expo Park (西安世博园, Xī’ān Shìbóyuán)

Xi’an Expo Park

Xi’an Expo Park, often mentioned alongside Huaqing Palace, is known as the “European-style backyard” for locals. Originally built for the World Horticultural Exposition, it has been transformed into a garden showcasing diverse international styles. Every corner offers unique photo opportunities, blending European landscaping with the charm of classical Chinese aesthetics.
