Plan at a glance

Start with the stories of Wuzhong

Wuzhong Museum is located in the Binhe New Area of Litong District, at the “Two Museums and One Center” (两馆一中心) complex on Kaiyuan Avenue. This local history museum is organized around four themes: Wuzhong Through Time (吴忠溯源), Wuzhong's Revolutionary History (红色吴忠), Wuzhong's Hui Heritage (回乡吴忠), and Splendid Wuzhong (锦绣吴忠). It makes a worthwhile stop when exploring central Wuzhong and is separate from the Qingtongxia Yellow River Grand Canyon.

Free entry; closed on Mondays

Current public listings show free admission from Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with last entry at 4:30 p.m. The museum is closed on Mondays. Check the day's notice for public-holiday changes.

Allow one to two hours

For a short visit, spend about an hour with Wuzhong Through Time and Wuzhong's Revolutionary History. To see all four themes at a relaxed pace, allow 1.5 to 2 hours. If you arrive in the afternoon, keep the 4:30 p.m. last-entry time in mind.

Choose your visit

Begin with Wuzhong Through Time

This gallery follows early remains, local archaeology, and the region's history. Look for the Tang-era epitaph of Lady Lü. It was unearthed in Litong District in 2003; the inscription says she died at her private residence in Lingzhou and was later buried east of Huile County. It offers important physical evidence for research into the location of the Tang-era city of Lingzhou. If the epitaph is on display, read the accompanying label to see how the ancient place names relate to present-day Wuzhong.

Explore Wuzhong's Revolutionary History

Wuzhong's Revolutionary History explores modern Wuzhong through local people, events, and social change, with a focus on the region's revolutionary past. If time is short, choose a few displays that tell a clear story about Wuzhong. Visiting it after Wuzhong Through Time puts the region's early history and more recent experience in sequence.

Explore local life and customs

Wuzhong's Hui Heritage and Splendid Wuzhong introduce local customs, everyday life, and the city's development. Past displays have included pottery and animal-shaped objects. Look at the labels for their dates, uses, and places of discovery. Exhibits and gallery access may change, so follow the museum's current visitor guide.

Build your day

A one-hour route

Start with Wuzhong Through Time and follow the displays on early history and archaeology. If Lady Lü's epitaph is on view, read its inscription and label. Then continue to Wuzhong's Revolutionary History and choose one part of the city's modern history. Leave a few minutes to check notices about temporary exhibitions before you go.

A 1.5- to 2-hour route

With more time, visit Wuzhong Through Time and Wuzhong's Revolutionary History first, then continue to Wuzhong's Hui Heritage and Splendid Wuzhong for local customs and urban history. Allow 1.5 to 2 hours overall. If a temporary exhibition is open or a gallery is closed, adjust the sequence using the entrance guide.

Leave room for temporary exhibitions

The museum hosts temporary exhibitions and public programs, so galleries and open areas may change. Check the entrance notices or ask the service desk where to start. If you collect museum stamps, ask whether one is available that day.

Get there

Go to the Two Museums and One Center complex

Search for “Wuzhong Museum” and navigate to Kaiyuan Avenue in Litong District, at the Two Museums and One Center complex. For driving or a ride-hailing car, check the map on the day; follow on-site signs for parking locations and fees.

Check local bus stops on the day

Bus routes, stops, and schedules can change. Search for the museum in a current map app before setting out, and check the walking distance and last return service before choosing a route.

Plan the canyon as a separate trip

The museum is in Litong District, while the canyon is in Qingtongxia City. They are not neighboring sights, and free museum admission does not include the canyon's boats, vehicles, or pagoda area. If visiting both in one day, first check travel time to the canyon visitor center, ticket inclusions, and the last return connections; then decide how long to spend at the museum.

Know before you go

Bring ID; groups should arrange their visit ahead

Wuzhong's public visitor guidance asks individual visitors to bring valid identification and groups to book one day ahead. Before travelling, call the museum at +86 953 658 8817 to confirm holiday hours and arrangements for groups.

Follow the displays that are open

Exhibitions can change with temporary shows, loans, and gallery schedules. Follow the labels and service-desk guidance, do not touch objects, and observe the photography signs in each gallery.

Leave time for a meal in town

Wuzhong's traditional morning tea is a good way to start the day before visiting the museum. For lunch or dinner, consider trying hand-grasped lamb (shouzhuayangrou), a local specialty. Restaurant opening hours, prices, and distances from the museum can vary, so check your route and timing before setting out.
