How to Visit

First separate the old temple from the cultural scenic area
When people say Famen Temple, they may mean two different levels of visit.
Tip:The old temple is more about worship and historic temple atmosphere, while Famen Cultural Scenic Area includes Namaste Dagoba, Famen Temple Museum, and the fuller visitor route.

Do not rush straight to Namaste Dagoba
Namaste Dagoba is the most visible landmark, but the museum explains the value of Famen Temple much better.
Tip:Start with Famen Temple Museum, understand the underground palace finds and Tang-dynasty offerings, then continue to Namaste Dagoba and the old temple area.

Spend real time in the museum
The eightfold treasure casket, silver staff, mise porcelain, glassware, and other relics are the strongest reasons to come.
Tip:The scenic area has grand buildings and long axes, but the artifacts are the heart of the visit.

Check the relic-viewing dates and times
The Buddha finger-bone relic is not available for viewing all day, every day.
Tip:It is more likely to be presented during fixed periods on the first and fifteenth days of the lunar month, weekends, and public holidays, so plan ahead if this is your main reason for coming.

Use the sightseeing vehicle if needed
The scenic area is large, and there is distance between the entrance and the main sights.
Tip:In hot weather, with older visitors or children, or if you are continuing to the Zhouyuan area, the sightseeing vehicle can save useful energy.
