How to Visit
1

First know this is not Qin Shi Huang or Li Shimin

The tomb owner here is Li Maozhen, a late Tang and Five Dynasties military ruler, and his wife.

Tip:It is not connected to Qin Shi Huang, and it is not the mausoleum of Emperor Taizong of Tang.
2

Focus on the underground structure, not large collections

The main value here is entering a real tomb space and seeing the sloped tomb passage, corridors, brick carvings, burial chambers, and anti-theft design.

Tip:Because the tomb was robbed in history, do not expect a major museum full of fine grave goods.
3

Look carefully at the brick gate tower in the wife's tomb

The underground imitation-wood brick gate tower in the wife's tomb is the most distinctive feature.

Tip:It is not just decoration; it brings above-ground architectural form into an underground burial space.
4

A guide makes the visit much more interesting

Late Tang history, Li Maozhen, and military-governor politics are unfamiliar to many visitors.

Tip:Without explanation, the visit may feel like a short underground walk; with a guide, the tomb owner and architectural details become clearer.
5

Bring a light layer even in summer

The underground palace is cooler than the surface.

Tip:The visit is not long, but a light layer is useful if you get cold easily or are traveling with children or older visitors.
Highlights
  • This is a rare chance to enter a real underground tomb space near central Baoji.
  • Li Maozhen connects the site with late Tang and Five Dynasties military history.
  • The brick-carved gate tower in the wife's tomb is the most important architectural detail.
  • The spirit path, tomb passage, and anti-theft structures show another side of mausoleum design.
  • It works as part of a Baoji city half-day route and does not need a full day by itself.
Insider Tips

Do not mistake King of Qin here for Qin Shi Huang or Li Shimin.

The underground space is cool, so avoid dressing too lightly even in summer.

This site is much better with explanation than with photos alone.

The number of precious artifacts is not the point; the tomb structure is the point.

Taxi or self-driving is easier than public transport, especially for the return trip.
