Plan at a glance
Moss-covered rocks, valleys and waterfalls
Lüshigu (绿石谷) is known for moss-covered rock formations and waterfalls in the mountain valleys. Highlights include Sangou Jiupu (三沟九瀑, “three valleys and nine waterfalls”), Wunü Peak (五女峰), Shuanglong Pool (双龙潭) and Fenglan Diepu (峰岚叠瀑), a series of cascades set among the mountain peaks. The streams, rocks and trees in the valleys make for a slow scenic walk. After rain, the moss looks darker and the rocks are slippery.
Season, trails and fitness
Spring brings azaleas, midsummer brings mossy valleys and Tianü magnolias, autumn is mainly for foliage, and winter brings ice and snow scenery. Route length depends on the weather, which trails are open and shuttle operations. Uphill branches involve more climbing, so plan according to the effort required.

Choose your visit
Follow the stream to see mossy rocks and waterfalls
For valley scenery, choose a valley trail that is open that day and look out for moss-covered rocks, waterfalls and Shuanglong Pool along the way. Rocks can be slippery after rain. This walk is best for visitors who can wear shoes with good grip and take their time on boardwalks and marked paths.
Decide whether to add a climb
The five peaks and Wunü Peak are mountain scenery. Uphill routes involve more elevation gain and different return arrangements from the valley trails. If you want to reach a ridge or summit, first find out which sections are open, how steep they are, where they end and how to arrange the return transfer. If time is limited, stay in the valley.
Build your day
Out and back on a valley trail
If you are focusing on mossy rocks and waterfalls, choose a valley trail that is open that day and permits an out-and-back walk. Follow it to the sights, then return to the confirmed entrance or shuttle stop. If you plan to ride uphill and walk down, first arrange the boarding stop, walking endpoint and return vehicle.
Sightseeing shuttle and uphill walks
If you are using the sightseeing shuttle to reduce the climb, confirm the boarding point, drop-off stop, ticket coverage and return direction before choosing how far to walk. If you plan to climb Wunü Peak or another high point, confirm whether you can return along the same trail and whether the route connects with the last shuttle.
Arrange your transfer after the visit
Before departure, coordinate the final exit, parking area and return vehicle. If you are not driving, arrange transport both ways between Tangou and Benxi or Xiaoshi Town. Have a workable alternative in case rain closes the trails or shuttle service is suspended.
Get there
Navigate to Tangou, Hubao Village, Caohezhang Town
Search for “绿石谷” or “汤池沟绿石谷森林公园” (“Lüshigu” or “Tangchigou Lüshigu Forest Park”) in your navigation app. The address is Tangou, Hubao Village, Caohezhang Town, Benxi County. The scenic area information number is 024-46134655; call ahead to confirm the entrance, parking area and road conditions.
Driving and public transport
Tangou is a considerable distance from central Benxi. If you are not driving, arrange transport both ways from Benxi Railway Station or Xiaoshi Town to the scenic area before setting out. Confirm the pick-up and drop-off points and departure time after the visit before booking any intercity travel. Do not rely on finding a car at the last minute.
Know before you go
Tickets, opening and transfers
When buying tickets, confirm the admission ticket, sightseeing shuttle, discounts for older visitors and children, and whether advance booking is required. Before boarding, check the pick-up and drop-off points and whether the ticket covers a return ride. Rain may affect trails and shuttle operations, so check what is open on the day.
Seasonal scenery and slippery paths
Azaleas, Tianü magnolias, autumn foliage and winter snow each have their own season. Blooming, foliage colour and stream levels vary with the weather. The mossy rocks and waterfalls are beside the water. After rain, slow down, wear shoes with good grip and follow closure signs. Do not leave the boardwalk to enter the water or take photos.
Match the route to your group
Valley and uphill routes differ in slopes, steps and rest areas. If your group includes children, older visitors or anyone with limited mobility, ask about the walking effort, rest stops and toilets along the open routes before deciding whether to enter the valley or climb. Tangou Hot Spring is a separate nearby lodging and leisure option and requires its own transport.
International visitors using a passport as ID should check which documents are accepted, what payment methods are available and how tickets are verified on arrival.
