How to Visit
1

Visit it together with Yuelu Academy

Aiwan Pavilion sits near the South Gate core area of Yuelu Mountain. It works best as part of the same route as Yuelu Academy.

Tip:Do not cross the city just for the pavilion unless you are already visiting Yuelu Mountain or Hunan University.
2

Do not buy a separate ticket for the pavilion

Aiwan Pavilion itself does not usually require a separate ticket once you have reserved Yuelu Mountain entry. Yuelu Academy nearby is different and requires its own ticket.

Tip:Keep the two rules clear when planning the route.
3

Give the crowd a little time to move

The pavilion area is small, and visitors gather around the front, pond, and steps.

Tip:For a cleaner photo, wait a few minutes or look for angles from the pond edge or nearby steps instead of staying only at the front.
4

Expect crowds in autumn

Aiwan Pavilion is especially famous during maple season, usually from late November to mid-December.

Tip:The scenery is more distinctive then, but the crowds are heavier. A weekday morning is much more comfortable than a weekend afternoon.
Highlights
  • One of the most recognizable cultural landmarks on Yuelu Mountain.
  • Closely linked with classical poetry, Yuelu Academy, and Changsha's mountain-and-river setting.
  • Autumn maple leaves make it one of the most photographed spots in the area.
  • Its location near Yuelu Academy makes it easy to include in a half-day route.
  • Even without hiking to the summit, it gives a clear sense of Yuelu Mountain's cultural atmosphere.
Insider Tips

The pavilion is small, so crowd levels strongly affect the experience.

Go early during maple season if you want cleaner photos.

Stone steps can be slippery after rain.

If you have reserved Yuelu Mountain but did not buy a Yuelu Academy ticket, you can still visit Aiwan Pavilion and the nearby paths.

Treat it as a short stop rather than a long standalone attraction.
