How to Visit
1

Plan Orange Isle as a half-day walking area

Orange Isle is not a quick photo stop right outside the metro. The island is long, and the main sights are near the southern tip.

Tip:First-time visitors should allow at least 2-3 hours; if you plan to take the sightseeing train, photograph the statue, enjoy the river views, or connect to a cruise, keep the schedule loose.
2

Reserve entry first, then decide whether to use the sightseeing train

Orange Isle is free, but advance reservation is usually required. The sightseeing train is the main energy-saver inside the area.

Tip:A common adult ticket for the full island route is CNY 40, useful if you do not want to walk both ways. If your goal is the southern tip, ride toward the Young Mao Zedong Statue area first, then walk back slowly.
3

Use the metro as your first choice for getting in and out

The easiest route is Metro Line 2 to Orange Isle Station. On holidays, weekends, and popular evening periods, taxis and private cars can get stuck in traffic, and vehicles cannot freely enter the scenic area.

Tip:If you have large luggage, check whether storage is available near the visitor center or metro entrance before going in.
4

Focus on the southern tip and river views

For a first visit, prioritize the Young Mao Zedong Statue, Wentian Terrace, the poetry stele, and the Xiangjiang River views.

Tip:Orange Isle is long, and walking the whole island can drain your energy, especially in summer sun or winter river wind.
5

Late afternoon works well for onward plans

Entering later in the afternoon helps avoid some heat and makes it easier to continue to the Xiangjiang riverside, a Xiangjiang River cruise, or Dufu Pavilion at night.

Tip:On holidays, late afternoon crowds can be heavy, so leave time for metro exits, sightseeing train queues, and photos.
Highlights
  • Orange Isle sits in the middle of the Xiangjiang River and is one of Changsha's most recognizable landmarks.
  • The Young Mao Zedong Statue is the main sight at the southern tip.
  • From the island, you can see the Xiangjiang River, Yuelu Mountain, and both sides of Changsha's skyline.
  • The sightseeing train greatly reduces walking, especially for older travelers, children, or summer visits.
  • Late afternoon and evening routes can connect naturally with river views, cruises, and Dufu Pavilion.
Insider Tips

Free entry does not mean guaranteed walk-in entry; reserve ahead on busy dates.

Sightseeing train tickets are usually valid on the day of purchase, but reboarding at popular stops may involve waiting.

The statue area is the most crowded part; go early or use side and distant angles for cleaner photos.

Bring water, sun protection, and a hat in summer; river wind becomes noticeable after sunset in winter.

Avoid unofficial guides or paid shortcuts near the metro exit or scenic-area entrance.
