Plan at a glance
Scope and ticket relationship
Hegui Building is in Pushan Village, Meilin Town, Nanjing County, Zhangzhou, and forms part of the wider Yunshuiyao area. It works as a focused 1–1.5-hour stop, or as part of a 2.5–3-hour half-day route with the riverside path and Huaiyuan Building.
Hegui Building does not normally sell a separate ticket. It is generally covered by the CNY 90 ticket for the shared scenic area, which also covers Huaiyuan Building and the Yunshuiyao old town. Confirm that your ticket covers this building; a temporary charge requested by a resident near the building is not the official entrance ticket.
Entrance and pace
The usual approach is from the south-gate and visitor-centre area, followed by a short walk to the building. The area is open all day, but 8:00–17:30 is the more practical time for the main visit. If you only want Hegui Building, there is no need to walk the entire old path just to fill half a day.
This stop suits architecture and photography enthusiasts who enjoy observing spatial details slowly. Residents still use the surrounding buildings, so focus on the exterior, the courtyard, and publicly accessible areas rather than looking for an unofficial upstairs route.

Marshy ground and the two wells
Hegui Building was built on marshy ground, and the relationship between the square building and its wetland setting is the main detail to notice. Two nearby wells in the courtyard have different appearances. Observe their position and form, but do not touch the water or repeatedly test the slight vibration that some visitors may notice underfoot.
The square courtyard, exterior wall, and open space outside the building work well for symmetrical compositions and wide views. Some interior areas are used by residents, so what you can see depends on the day's access arrangements. Do not promise a particular floor, room, or fixed photography position.
Who this suits
Hegui Building is a good choice for visitors who want a short introduction to Nanjing's tulou without immediately walking the full old path. With older adults, use the open square, courtyard, and nearby riverside area as the main stops, reducing continuous walking on uneven stone paths.
If you want to see Hegui Building and Huaiyuan Building on the same day, use the old path between them as the main walking segment. Do not build the plan around unconfirmed resident-led access to several upper floors. Use public areas for photography and avoid tripods, long poles, or other equipment that affects residents' movement.
Build your day
About 1–1.5 hours: a focused route
Enter near the south gate or visitor-centre area. First look at the square building and its marshy foundation from outside, then visit the publicly accessible areas available that day, focusing on the courtyard and the two wells. Take photographs in the open space outside, walk toward Lovers' Bridge if you wish, and return on the same route.
This route suits visitors with limited time or groups who cannot walk continuously for long. Whether upper floors are open, residents offer explanations, or photography arrangements are available depends on on-site management. Do not extend the route just to find an extra viewpoint.
About 2.5–3 hours: a combined route
With more time, visit Hegui Building first, then walk along the old path past the waterwheel and banyan trees before continuing to Huaiyuan Building. The two buildings are covered by the same ticket, but they are separate buildings, so allow time to observe each one rather than treating the second as a quick add-on.
Finish from the exit you confirmed in advance. If your car is parked near Hegui Building, do not assume it will be convenient to collect it after leaving from the north side. Without a transfer arrangement, include the return walk in the day's total.
Early morning or evening stop
If you stay nearby, early morning is a good time to see the building and riverside mist, while evening can be used for a walk around the open square and old path. Mist, lights, and performances depend on weather, season, and the day's schedule. They should not be treated as guaranteed attractions.
Get there
Driving and parking
Drivers can navigate to “Hegui Building Parking Lot” and walk to the building after parking. Parking areas around the scenic area are spread out and may be tighter on weekends and holidays. Confirm the car's location and departure direction when you arrive.
From Nanjing Station
From Nanjing Station, a shared car or taxi to the area commonly costs about CNY 40–50 per person and takes around 1 hour. Bus 6 runs less frequently. If you use public transport, leave extra time for both the outbound and return trips and check the last service.
Hegui Building is along a mountain road. Do not plan to find a night vehicle at the last minute. If you want to visit another tulou district the same day, arrange that transfer separately by private car or chartered car; the different districts are not walkable from one another.
Know before you go
Shared ticket, resident areas, and extra charges
The formal visit to Hegui Building is generally covered by the CNY 90 shared scenic-area ticket. A resident-led upstairs visit, photography arrangement, or temporary opening may cost extra or may not be available at all. These arrangements are not stable ticket benefits.
Keep quiet and stay out of private rooms, resident corridors, and closed areas. If residents are carrying out daily activities, leave them room to pass and do not take close-up photographs without permission.
Shoes, weather, and purchases
The exterior area and old path use many cobbles, which become slippery after rain. Wear flat, non-slip shoes and avoid taking suitcases into the main walking section. At midday, shade around the square is limited, so carry water and plan a break.
People may solicit customers for tea, herbs, or food along the route. Ask for the price and service details before paying. If you do not need anything, refuse directly and do not follow a stranger to a different entrance or route.
