Plan at a glance

Location and entrance

China Shipbuilding Culture Museum is around 7 Zhaozhong Road and 53 Lian'an Branch Road in Mawei District, Fuzhou. For navigation, search for “China Shipbuilding Culture Scenic Area” or “China Shipbuilding Culture Museum.” The west gate is closer to the museum; you can also enter from the east side if you want to start with Zhaozhong Shrine.

The museum is free and open Tuesday–Sunday from 09:00 to 17:00, with last entry at 16:30. It is closed on Mondays except statutory holidays. Visitors can usually scan an ID card or enter directly, but real-name booking requirements may change by time slot or venue; bring your ID card and leave time for registration or booking instead of treating “no booking required” as an absolute rule.

Suggested visit length and ticket scope

Allow about 2 hours for the museum's main exhibitions. If you also walk to the Engine Workshop, Huishi Hall, Iron-Rib Factory and Shipbuilding Bookstore, allow half a day. The museum is free, but the Shipbuilding Office costs about CNY 30 and the *Remembering Shipbuilding* performance about CNY 258; neither is part of ordinary museum entry.

Choose your visit

The main museum exhibitions

The museum focuses on shipbuilding history, the shipbuilding industry, related historical figures, equipment and models. The second-floor scale model helps first-time visitors understand the size of the former shipyard, while the third-floor school hall and other galleries reward slower reading. Exact gallery access follows the day's on-site arrangement.

Industrial heritage and architectural details

The Engine Workshop, Huishi Hall and Iron-Rib Factory are nearby stops within the wider scenic area, not indoor galleries of the museum. Visitors interested in industrial photography can extend the visit to the red-brick buildings, steel-framed factory spaces, louvred windows and reflections on the water outside the museum.

Visitor fit

The museum suits history enthusiasts, industrial-heritage photographers and families on an educational visit. It offers an indoor starting point followed by an outdoor extension; if someone in your group cannot manage a long walk, complete the museum first and leave the factory buildings for another visit.

Build your day

A museum route of about 2 hours

Enter through the west gate and go first to China Shipbuilding Culture Museum. Prioritise the second-floor scale model and the main shipbuilding-history exhibition, then add the third-floor school hall or another gallery if time allows. After the visit, collect any luggage from the museum's free storage point before deciding whether to continue outdoors.

This route suits visitors with limited time. The Engine Workshop, Huishi Hall, Iron-Rib Factory and Luoxing Pagoda Park are close by, but do not force all of them into a two-hour museum visit.

A half-day museum and industrial-heritage route

Enter from Zhaozhong Shrine or the west gate, visit the museum, then walk through the scenic area to the Iron-Rib Factory, Shipbuilding Bookstore, Engine Workshop and Huishi Hall before moving toward Luoxing Pagoda Park. Put the museum in the first half of the day while the indoor venues are open, and leave the outdoor buildings and riverside walk for the afternoon.

The Time-Space Tunnel is an optional paid activity, not a required passage to these areas. If time is limited, take the free outside route around Zhaozhong Shrine instead of adding the tunnel to the standard plan.

A full-day shipbuilding itinerary

In the morning, visit the museum and Zhaozhong Shrine, then add Maxian Mountain Park or another shipbuilding heritage site. In the afternoon, walk through the Iron-Rib Factory, Huishi Hall and Shipbuilding Bookstore; near sunset, choose the *Remembering Shipbuilding* performance or a riverside sunset according to the schedule. The performance, Shipbuilding Office and some indoor venues require separate checks of ticket prices and show times, so do not estimate the whole day's cost from free museum entry.

Get there

Public transport and taxi

Take Fuzhou Metro Line 2 to Yangli Station, then change to Bus 529, M3 or 73 for Mawei Shipyard or Shipbuilding Station. Buses 37, 58, 73 and 137 also reach Shipbuilding Station or the Mawei District Committee stop. A taxi from central Fuzhou to the museum area takes about 1 hour and costs about CNY 40, depending on the starting point and traffic.

For a taxi, enter “China Shipbuilding Culture Museum” or the scenic area's west gate. Do not search only for a generic Mawei attraction name. The west gate is closer to the museum, while the east gate is better for starting at Zhaozhong Shrine.

Driving and parking

For driving, navigate to the P1 car park at China Shipbuilding Culture Scenic Area. P1 usually has more spaces; P5 and the car park beside the lawn are alternatives but may be tighter. The museum entrance is not the main parking point, so allow for a walk inside the scenic area after parking.

Know before you go

Opening hours and booking

The museum is closed on Mondays and stops admitting visitors at 16:30, so plan it before the outdoor heritage sites. Bring an ID card and leave time for real-name booking or on-site registration.

Indoor rules and guiding

Food and drinks are not allowed inside. The museum front desk can store luggage free of charge. Volunteer talks and other guiding services may change, so do not plan around one supposedly fixed free session; if you want more explanation, choose an option available on site that day.

The Time-Space Tunnel costs about CNY 19.9–25 and the sightseeing vehicle at the entrance about CNY 20. Both are optional paid activities, not necessary for visiting the museum or walking to the other factory buildings; decide first whether they genuinely save time or effort.

Walking and nearby plans

There are many stone paths in the scenic area, and the step count can rise noticeably after combining the museum with the industrial sites. Wear comfortable sports shoes and carry water. You can continue to Zhaozhong Shrine, Maxian Mountain Park, Shipbuilding Bookstore, Luoxing Pagoda Park or the Shipbuilding Night Market, but each has its own opening and ticket rules.
