Walkway network and entrances

Fudao, formally the Zuohai Park–Jinniushan Urban Forest Walkway, connects six parks including Zuohai Park, Meifeng Hill Park and Jinniushan Sports Park. The network is about 19 km long. It has multiple numbered access points, not one main gate, and it is not a short loop that every visitor needs to complete.

Entrance 3 at Meifeng Hill Park is the most practical starting point for a first visit, with the water boardwalk and spiral ramp nearby. Entrance 5 at Jinniushan Sports Park leads toward a viewpoint over the Min River and the city at night. Entrance 1 is close to Zuohai Park, West Lake Park and Fujian Museum; Entrances 6 and 7 are better for longer routes.

Opening hours and suggested visit length

Fudao is free and does not require booking. It is open 06:00–22:00; lights usually come on at 18:30 from May 1 to September 20 and at 17:30 from September 21 to April 30, with walkway lighting switched off after 21:30.

The short loop from Entrance 3 takes about 1 hour. The route from Entrance 3 to Entrance 5 is about 5 km and usually takes 1.5–2 hours. If you want sunset and the illuminated walkway, leave extra time for the entrance, viewpoint and descent instead of treating the full 19 km network as an ordinary half-day walk.

Boardwalks and the spiral ramp at Entrance 3

The water boardwalk, open steel-grid walkway and spiral steel ramp near Entrance 3 are the most representative sections of Fudao. They suit visitors who want a light hike, urban-architecture photography or a forest walk; you do not need to continue to a distant entrance to experience the main features.

The city view at Entrance 5

The viewpoint near Entrance 5 looks toward the Min River and Fuzhou’s skyline, making it a useful late-afternoon destination. The lights and night view depend on the season, weather and on-site lighting, so the same conditions cannot be guaranteed on every visit.

Visitor types and physical limits

Fudao suits light hikers, photographers, families and visitors who enjoy urban walks. The recommended section around Entrance 3 is relatively gentle, but the 19 km network does not have uniform entrances, slopes, stairs or exit arrangements; do not assume that the entire network is suitable for wheelchairs or strollers.

Build your day

A short loop from Entrance 3

Enter from the left side of Entrance 3, follow the water boardwalk and spiral ramp, and return down the stairs after reaching marker 26. The route takes about 1 hour and suits visitors with limited time or families travelling with older adults and children; there are intermediate exits if you need to leave early.

The walkway is one-way. Do not walk back against the direction of travel to revisit a photo point, and do not re-enter the walkway after using a toilet if doing so would create unnecessary climbing. Leave through the marked exit and decide whether to continue elsewhere.

The highlight route from Entrance 3 to Entrance 5

Enter at Entrance 3, pass the metasequoia grove, Mushroom Pavilion and Bell Tower, and finish at the viewpoint before leaving from Entrance 5. The route is about 5 km and usually takes 1.5–2 hours, with many of the main photo points concentrated along this section.

This is a one-way route with different start and end points. Drivers should arrange a pickup or a taxi from Entrance 5; if you need to return to a car at Entrance 3, allow for that return journey instead of calculating only the walkway distance.

A late-afternoon and evening route

In summer, enter from Entrance 3 before 17:30; in winter, work backwards from the seasonal lighting time. Watch the sunset around the metasequoia grove, then move toward the Entrance 5 viewpoint for the illuminated city view. Leave before 21:30, when the walkway lights switch off.

At night, use only well-lit sections and travel with a companion where possible. If the weather worsens or you become tired, use an intermediate exit rather than forcing the route to its planned endpoint.

Get there

Entrances 3, 5 and 1

For Entrance 3, take buses 101, 66 or 158 to Meifeng Road. For Entrance 5, take bus 207 to Fudao Entrance 5. For Entrance 1, take buses 10 or 308 to the Provincial High Court stop. You still need to walk from the bus stop to the numbered entrance, so search for the entrance number rather than only “Fudao”.

Take Fuzhou Metro Line 4 to Fenghuangchi Station (凤凰池站), Exit D, then use a shared bicycle or taxi to reach the entrance. Parking is available near Entrance 3 but spaces are limited; you can navigate to Fudao Entrance 3 or Meifeng Hill Park, but public transport is usually easier at weekends.

Returning from a through-route

The short Entrance 3 route returns to its starting point, while the Entrance 3–5 route requires a return plan from Entrance 5. If you want to combine Fudao with Zuohai Park, West Lake Park or Fujian Museum, decide where the day will end before choosing Entrance 1, 3 or 5.

Know before you go

Shoes, supplies and weather

The open steel-grid walkway has wide gaps, so wear non-slip sports shoes. High heels, clogs and slippers can catch in the grating or become slippery, and staff may advise you not to enter. Convenience stores and toilets are limited, so bring enough water and a small snack.

Mosquitoes are common in summer, so bring insect repellent and sun protection. Keep your phone and small belongings away from the gaps in the steel grid, and do not step into closed areas for a photo.

One-way movement and night safety

The walkway is one-way and reverse walking is prohibited. There are several exits, including Exit 26, so you can finish early if you are tired, the weather changes or time is running short; completing the entire network is not a requirement.

The walkway lights go off after 21:30, so descend before then. If you continue in a nearby park at night, use well-lit roads and arrange a safe way back.

Nearby plans

From Entrance 1, you can walk toward Zuohai Park or Fuzhou West Lake Park. Fujian Museum is also close to Entrance 1 and works well as a daytime indoor option, but it has separate reservation, security and opening rules. Local snacks such as mixed noodles and meat dumpling soup are available near the walkway; choose a specific place according to your route and its hours that day.
