How to Visit
1

Check entry rules before you go

Guilin Museum is free to visit, but check the same-day entry rules before you go. Normal hours are 09:00-17:00, with last entry at 16:30.

Tip:It is closed on Mondays, with possible holiday adjustments.
2

Plan for Lingui New District

The newer museum is in Lingui New District, not near Elephant Hill or Dongxi Lane.

Tip:A taxi from the city center is easier; buses take longer.
3

Start with the main history galleries

For a first visit, start with Lishui Chunqiu and Jingjiang Legacy. The first helps you understand Guilin's history, while the Ming-dynasty plum vases in the second are the most worthwhile part of the museum.

Tip:These two sections give the visit its strongest structure.
4

Add the supporting exhibitions if you have time

If you have more time, add the foreign gifts exhibition and the folk culture exhibition.

Tip:They are not core Guilin landscape sights, but they add context on Guilin's international exchanges and Guangxi ethnic culture.
5

Use it as a slower indoor stop

Allow 1.5-2 hours for a comfortable visit. With older visitors, children, or rainy weather, this works well as an indoor city option.

Tip:Do not schedule it too tightly with central Guilin sights.
Highlights
  • The Ming-dynasty plum vase exhibition is the museum's strongest section and links closely with Jingjiang Princes' City and Guilin history.
  • Lishui Chunqiu is useful for first-time visitors because it connects Guilin's timeline from prehistory to the modern period.
  • The foreign gifts exhibition is unusual and shows another side of Guilin as an international tourism city.
  • The museum is spacious and calmer than the city's crowded sightseeing spots.
  • Free entry makes it useful during rain, summer heat, or when you need a slower indoor stop.
Insider Tips

Do not schedule it too tightly with central Guilin sights; the round trip to Lingui New District takes time.

Do not go on Monday, and check holiday opening arrangements before visiting.

If there is a guided tour session, arrive near the service desk a little early. It is easier than trying to understand everything by walking through alone.

Air-conditioning and visitor comfort can vary by season, so bring water in summer.

If you like souvenir stamps or museum shops, leave a little time for the service desk and cultural-products area.
