Plan at a glance
Start at the visitor center, then choose the shuttle or the trail
The scenic area is east of Longde County town, around Yangjiadian Village. Its main entrance is at the visitor service center. The Long March Memorial Hall, monument, memorial pavilion, and poetry platform on the mountain are all part of the same scenic area. The Red Army Trail links the climb with displays about the Long March.
Allow about 1.5–2 hours to take the sightseeing shuttle up, visit the Memorial Hall and monument, and return. If you hike the Red Army Trail and take the shuttle down, plan for about 3–4 hours. The hall and mountain paths have different opening hours, so try to arrive in the morning.
Admission, shuttles, and visit length
Recent information from 2026 says there is no entrance fee. The round-trip sightseeing shuttle is commonly listed at a reference fare of CNY 30; the Red Army Trail experience or audio guide may cost extra. A 2023 Guyuan City fee response still lists a CNY 50 entrance ticket, which differs from the recent information. Confirm the ticket type and charges before buying.
The scenic area commonly lists hours of 8:30 am–5:30 pm. The Memorial Hall lists 9:00 am–5:30 pm, with last admission at 5:00 pm. Hours can change with the season and weather, so plan the hike and museum visit around that day’s notice.

Walk the Red Army Trail past 18 historical scenes
The Red Army Trail climbs the mountain for about 2.5 km one way. More than 200 sculptures along the route depict 18 scenes from the Long March. The trail connects the visitor-center side with the viewpoints at the summit. It is an uphill hike, not a level loop, and suits visitors who are comfortable climbing and want to explore the history on foot.
Rain, snow, and forest-fire management have led to temporary trail closures. Confirm that the trail is open before planning to hike it. If it is closed, take the sightseeing shuttle rather than entering a closed mountain path.
Visit the Memorial Hall, monument, and poetry platform
The Memorial Hall focuses on Long March documents, photographs, and exhibits. Outside, you can see the monument, memorial pavilion, and plaza. The lyric Qingpingyue · Liupanshan (《清平乐·六盘山》) grew out of verses Mao Zedong composed while crossing Liupan Mountain with the Central Red Army in 1935. He revised the work afterward. Visit the viewing platform on the hall roof and then read the poem by the monument to connect the exhibits with the mountain setting.
The Memorial Hall has its own admission hours, which do not exactly match the last sightseeing shuttle. If the hall is your main reason for visiting, check its opening and last-entry times before choosing how to go up the mountain.
Each way up has its trade-offs
Taking the shuttle saves energy and is convenient if you are traveling with older adults or children, or are short on time. The Red Army Trail adds an uphill hike and is a better fit if you want the themed walking experience. Choose according to your stamina: hike up and take the shuttle down, or use the shuttle both ways.

Build your day
1.5–2 hours: Take the shuttle up, visit the hall, and return the same way
At the visitor service center, confirm that the hall and sightseeing shuttle are operating, then ride up. Visit the Memorial Hall first, followed by the monument, memorial pavilion, and poetry platform. Take the shuttle back to the visitor center. Allow about 1.5–2 hours for the visit, with extra time for queues or a guided program.
Check the mountain shuttle fare separately from any entrance ticket. When buying a ticket, ask whether the up-and-down rides use the same ticket and confirm the last departures uphill and downhill. Do not estimate your return from the scenic area’s closing time alone.
3–4 hours: Hike up the Red Army Trail and take the shuttle down
From the visitor service center, hike about 2.5 km uphill along the Red Army Trail. At the summit, visit the Memorial Hall, monument, and poetry platform, then take the sightseeing shuttle back. Ask staff whether the whole trail is open and whether the shuttle picks up passengers at the summit.
If the trail is slippery after rain, you do not have enough energy, or the path is closed, use the shuttle both ways. Do not start the uphill hike shortly before the hall’s last admission time.
Get there
Navigate to the Yangjiadian visitor service center
Set your destination to “Liupanshan Long March Scenic Area Visitor Service Center” or “Liupanshan Long March Memorial Plaza.” The scenic area is east of Longde County town along National Highway 312, about 6 km from the county center. The scenic area’s introduction gives the distance from downtown Guyuan as about 50 km. Actual driving distance and time depend on your starting point and the route that day. Leave your car at the foot of the mountain; private vehicles cannot enter the summit visitor area.
An intercity bus connects Guyuan with the scenic area. Route information from September 2026 lists several stops in downtown Guyuan; the bus route is about 85 km one way and takes around 1 hour 40 minutes. This is the bus-route distance, not the driving distance. Schedules and fares may change. Check the “Guyuan Chuxing” app or the bus station on the day, and plan your return trip in advance.
Confirm the mountain shuttle and return point when you arrive
At the visitor center, ask whether admission, the shuttle, the Red Army Trail experience, and guiding are charged separately, then choose how to go up. Before boarding at the summit, confirm the pickup point and last return departure.
Know before you go
Weather and fire restrictions can affect the Red Army Trail
On September 10, 2026, the scenic area reopened the Red Army Trail after a safety inspection following rain. The mountain path may still close temporarily because of rain, snow, or forest-fire management. Check the scenic area’s notice before setting out and confirm the trail status again when you arrive.
Follow forest rules: no smoking or open flames, and comply with safety checks and staff directions. If a route is closed, stay in visitor areas that remain open; do not cross barriers or enter unmarked paths.
It is windy at the summit; watch your footing and pace
The summit is cool and windy. Bring a jacket and water. The Red Army Trail has uphill sections and steps, so wear shoes with good grip and rest along the way as needed. If you are traveling with children, keep them near the steps and railings, and stay on the trail when taking photos.
Leave time for the last shuttle and the hall’s closing time
The last sightseeing shuttle may leave before the scenic area closes. Visit the hall first, then fit the monument and poetry platform around the posted shuttle schedule. If you need to wait for a guide or attend a program, leave enough time for the ride back down.
