Plan at a glance
Follow Longde’s history and see local art
Longde Museum is in the Culture Street area of the county town. Its permanent exhibition, “Silk Road and Liupan Mountain: A Millennium of Longde” (《丝路六盘·千年隆德》), traces local history from ancient times to the present. The galleries also cover Longde’s calligraphy and painting, folk art, and everyday life. It is a good fit if you want to learn about the cultural history of a town on the western side of Liupan Mountain without packing your day too tightly.
The museum received a Level 2 rating in China’s 2024 national museum assessment. Compared with a large general museum, it is better suited to a slower visit focused on local history, Silk Road transport, and regional art.
Allow about 30–45 minutes to visit a few themed galleries. Set aside 1.5–2 hours if you want to follow the timeline from the introductory hall and also see “Enduring Traditions” (《流风遗韵》), temporary exhibitions, or activity spaces that are open that day. Gallery access and activities depend on current arrangements.
Free admission; check notices before visiting
Current venue information lists free admission. Since September 1, 2026, regular hours have been 9:00 am–5:00 pm, Tuesday through Sunday, with last admission at 4:30 pm. The museum is closed on Mondays; holiday arrangements are announced separately. Reservation and ID-check procedures may vary, so check the museum’s announcement before setting out.

Choose your visit
Start with “Silk Road and Liupan Mountain: A Millennium of Longde”
The permanent exhibition follows a timeline from ancient times and early civilizations through contact between Hua and Rong, Silk Road travel, frontier defense, and modern life. A 2023 museum profile listed nine themed sections, but gallery names and open areas may change as displays are updated. Follow the signs rather than trying to memorize the gallery names. Look for how Longde connected Guanzhong, Longyou, and the areas around Liupan Mountain, and how different periods left traces in the region.
The Yangshao remains at the Zhoujia Zuitou site offer one way to understand Longde’s prehistoric life. Archaeological research has found Yangshao-period pottery kilns and settlement remains there. Follow the museum labels during your visit; the archaeological site itself is not part of the museum grounds.
Look for paintings and brick carvings in “Enduring Traditions”
An earlier museum exhibition guide describes an “Enduring Traditions” (《流风遗韵》) section devoted to local painting, calligraphy, and folk art. Check whether this section is open during your visit. Wei family brick carving (魏氏砖雕) is a nationally recognized intangible cultural heritage craft from Longde, known for its finely carved decorative designs used in traditional architecture. Its patterns and architectural details combine everyday function with artistic design. Check whether related displays are open; hands-on activities and demonstrations by traditional craft practitioners are not available every day.
Treat permanent and temporary exhibitions separately
The permanent galleries focus on Longde’s local history. Temporary galleries and public activity spaces may change with exhibitions, study trips, or educational programs. If time is limited, see the permanent exhibition first, then decide whether to join a temporary event. Do not assume an activity from a past festival or a display in an old photo is a regular offering.
Build your day
30–45 minutes: Choose two history sections and add local art
After entering, read the introductory display, then choose a section on prehistory or early civilization, followed by one on the Silk Road or the frontier. Finish with a look at the paintings and local art in “Enduring Traditions.” Follow the museum guide for the current floor and case order; if time is short, skip a side topic that interests you less.
1.5–2 hours: Follow the main timeline to modern times
Start with ancient history and the beginnings of civilization, then continue through themes such as Hua–Rong interaction (华戎交响), the opening of the Silk Road (丝路初开), frontier contests (蕃汉争雄), and fortified border towns (边城要寨). Finish with modern history and “Enduring Traditions.” Gallery names and spaces may change, so follow the areas open that day. If a temporary exhibition is running, check its dates and estimated visit time before adding it.
As you look around, notice how the region’s history extends from archaeological remains to local art and customs. If a guided tour or public activity is scheduled, ask staff whether you need to register in advance.
Get there
Navigate to the west side of Culture Street in Longde County town
Search for “宁夏隆德博物馆” (“Ningxia Longde Museum”) on your map. Public venue information places it on the west side of Culture Street, near the Ning’an Road intersection. Follow signs on arrival. Check a current map for bus routes and ask about parking fees before setting out; details in older travel posts may no longer apply.
Confirm entry arrangements and temporary exhibitions
Reservation requirements, ID checks, and registration for public activities may change. The museum’s WeChat account is named “隆德博物馆.” The Trip.com attraction page lists 0954-6012544 as a contact number; confirm that the number and service hours are current before relying on it.
Know before you go
Check regular hours after the summer extension
The museum extended its hours during summer 2026 and returned to its regular schedule on September 1. Hours may change for public holidays or museum events. Check the latest notice before your visit; do not apply the summer extension to a fall or winter trip.
Check whether an intangible-heritage activity is scheduled
Longde has workshops that carry on the Wei family brick-carving craft and public cultural programs featuring it. The museum may or may not display related work or offer a hands-on activity, depending on the galleries and events scheduled that day. If making something is your main goal, check separately for county activities or an artisan workshop; museum admission alone does not guarantee a hands-on session.
Plan separately for the Long March Scenic Area
Longde Museum is in the county town. The Liupanshan Long March Scenic Area is east of town, about 6 km from the county center; they are not part of the same grounds. If you plan to visit both in one day, allow for the drive between them and separately check the scenic area’s admission, mountain shuttle, and opening status.
