How to Visit
1

Choose the South Gate route unless you have a clear reason not to

Most first-time visitors use Tangkou and the South Gate because transport, hotels, shuttles, and cableway access are easiest there.

Default to the practical gate
2

Pick back-mountain-up or front-mountain-up

Back-mountain-up via Yungu is often easier for a first classic route. Front-mountain-up makes more sense if Greeting Pine or Tiandu Peak is your main target.

Route order matters
3

Limit your must-see list

Greeting Pine, Bright Summit, West Sea Grand Canyon, and Tiandu Peak cannot all be treated casually in one crowded day. Choose priorities based on fitness and weather.

A shorter strong route beats an overloaded one
4

Book early for peak periods and protect the last descent

Tickets, cableways, and special routes can be capacity-controlled. Late-day descent queues are the common failure point.

The exit is part of the plan
Highlights
  • China's classic granite mountain landscape with pine, rock, cloud, and cliff scenery
  • UNESCO-listed mountain experience with routes for different fitness levels
  • Greeting Pine, Bright Summit, West Sea Grand Canyon, and major cableways
  • Best mountain sunrise and cloud-sea potential in the region
  • Strong enough to justify an overnight stay on or near the mountain
Insider Tips

Reserve tickets and key route slots early during holidays.

Carry layers, water, and simple food even in warm months.

Do not assume all peaks or canyon routes are open; maintenance and weather closures are normal.

Use trekking poles only where they help; some steep sections need hands free.

Start early and decide your descent before fatigue sets in.
