Plan at a glance
Separate the town from the surrounding areas
Yaoli Ancient Town is in Yaoli Town, Fuliang County. The old town has no single entrance gate; most visits begin at the Yaoli Visitor Service Centre. The lanes, riverbank, and other public areas are free to enter, while the Cheng Clan Ancestral Hall, Former Residence of Chen Yi, and Shigang Shenglan may require separate admission or be included in a combination ticket. Wanghu and Raonan are separate scenic areas with their own ticket rules.
The public old-town area is free, requires no reservation, and is open throughout the day. Small internal attractions generally run about 08:00–17:00. Wanghu and Raonan can be ticketed separately; the Cheng Clan Ancestral Hall and other internal sights may also be separate or part of a combination ticket. Combination tickets may cost around CNY 110–150, but confirm which areas and transport are included before buying.
A remote day needs a full schedule
A chartered car or shared transfer from central Jingdezhen to Yaoli takes about 1.5 hours each way. There is also a direct Yaoli tourist bus from West Bus Station, stopping at Jingdezhen North Railway Station North Square, Fuliang Ancient County Government, Gaoling China Village, Dongbu, and Yaoli. The full fare is about CNY 15, but departures are limited, so confirm the first and last service for the day. Even a town-only visit needs to include the return journey; add a full day when visiting an outer area.
Parking is available near the Yaoli Visitor Service Centre at about CNY 10 per vehicle. The central commercial street is walkable. Before going to Wanghu or Raonan, ask at the visitor centre whether a same-day scenic-area shuttle is running, where it stops, and what it costs; use a pre-arranged chartered car if the shuttle does not suit the plan.

Historic buildings, river views, and ceramic materials
The old town retains groups of Ming and Qing Huizhou-style buildings. The Cheng Clan Ancestral Hall, stone lanes, and horse-head walls reward a slow walk, while the Yaoli River, covered bridges, washing pavilions, and waterwheels connect the town to everyday riverside life. The main interest is the town's living spaces rather than a single museum circuit.
Wanghu Ecological Area is known for forest, old trees, and Nanshan Waterfall. Raonan Ceramics Theme Park shows old water-powered mills, glaze-material pits, and traces of ceramic raw-material processing. Both are separate outer-area visits that add walking; transport and admission should be arranged separately.
Who this suits
Town photographers can work from the covered bridges, opposite riverbank, and washing pavilions to photograph the Yaoli River, as well as the stone lanes and morning or rainy light on the buildings. Wanghu suits visitors who want waterfalls and forest, especially after rain or early in the day. Nature-focused visitors can make Wanghu the main destination, while visitors interested in ceramic history can start in the old town and then see Raonan's raw-material remains.
Visitors who prefer a quiet break can stay overnight in or near the town, but confirm accommodation, room availability, and food before departure. Meiling, the Porcelain-and-Tea Ancient Trail, and Dongbu Ancient Wharf work as separate outer-area stops; flowers, autumn colour, and tea-garden conditions are seasonal.
For a city-centre route through historic kilns and working workshops, see Jingdezhen Ancient Kiln Folk Customs Scenic Area.
Build your day
2–3-hour old-town short route
Walk from the Yaoli Visitor Service Centre into the core area. Follow the main commercial street to the Cheng Clan Ancestral Hall area, continue to the Yaoli River for the covered bridges, washing pavilions, and waterwheel, and finish near the Yaoli Past Memorial Hall. Enter the Cheng Clan Ancestral Hall or other internal sights only if you have the relevant small-attraction or combination ticket. This route does not include Wanghu or Raonan and suits a short visit focused on historic buildings and riverside life.
Return to the visitor centre for your car or to meet your chartered driver. The core area is walked on foot, and stone paving is slippery in rain. If you also plan to visit an outer area, confirm the scenic-area shuttle or chartered-car arrangement before leaving the town centre.
One-day old town plus one outer highlight
Start with the old-town core in the morning, following the short route through the main street, Cheng Clan Ancestral Hall area, Yaoli River, and covered bridges. In the afternoon, choose Wanghu or Raonan according to the day's transport. Include both on the same day only when you have arranged a chartered car in advance and there is enough time, then return to the visitor centre by the original transport plan.
The distance between Wanghu and Raonan, their opening hours, and the day's shuttle arrangements affect the order. Confirm the route at the visitor centre. For a return to central Jingdezhen, set the chartered-car or shared-transfer meeting time to cover the outer-area stop; calculate town walking and outer-area transport separately.
1–2-day photography and deeper route
After arriving on the first afternoon, walk around the stone bridge and covered bridge near the Yaoli Past Memorial Hall. On the second morning, photograph the old town's mist and cooking smoke, then take a chartered car to Meiling or the Porcelain-and-Tea Ancient Trail according to the transport plan. An overnight route works only after accommodation and the return vehicle have been confirmed; guesthouse opening follows the actual booking result.
This route spreads old-town light, Wanghu ecology, and outer trails across different time periods instead of rushing through mountain roads. Dongbu Ancient Wharf can be another separate outer stop, depending on the chartered-car route and the day's road conditions.
Get there
From central Jingdezhen to Yaoli
A chartered car or shared transfer is more flexible, taking about 1.5 hours each way. The direct tourist bus from West Bus Station also runs via Jingdezhen North Railway Station North Square, Fuliang Ancient County Government, Gaoling China Village, and Dongbu to Yaoli, with a full fare of about CNY 15. Confirm the day's departures. Yaoli does not fit well into a continuous half-day walking route with several city attractions.
For driving or a chartered car, navigate to “Yaoli Visitor Service Centre” and handle parking, the scenic-area shuttle, and the outer route there. Wanghu and Raonan require a separate ride; the old-town entrance does not lead directly to the outer scenic areas.
Parking and outer-area transfers
Parking near the visitor centre is about CNY 10 per vehicle. The core old town is explored on foot. Before going to Wanghu or Raonan, confirm at the visitor centre whether a scenic-area shuttle is running, where it stops, and the fare. If the shuttle does not suit the plan, use a pre-arranged chartered car; schedules, combination tickets, and transfer arrangements follow the day.
Know before you go
Mountain roads, stone paving, and temperature changes
The old-town stone paving is slippery in rain, and outer routes such as Wanghu and Meiling add mountain walking. Wear shoes with good grip and bring a light layer for the morning and evening temperature change. Waterfalls, forest, and ancient trails depend on weather and road conditions; morning, post-rain, and seasonal views change with the date.
When buying tea, ceramics, and local products, compare quality and price at shops with clear pricing. Confirm opening and service conditions for guesthouses, farm restaurants, tea shops, ceramic shops, Yaoli River Local Cuisine Restaurant, Wanghu Renjia, and other options before setting out.
Food and the return from the outer areas
Look for local flavours such as Jianshui Ba (碱水粑), a local rice cake, Kuchu Doufu (苦槠豆腐), a jelly-like local food made from starch extracted from bitter chinquapin nuts, stir-fried winter bamboo shoots with cured pork, and Yaoli Sanbao (瑶里三宝) at restaurants open that day. If you have already arranged a chartered car and plan to visit both Wanghu and Raonan on the same day, calculate the return around the mountain roads, scenic-area shuttle, and the chartered-car meeting point; otherwise, choose one of the two outer areas.
