How to Visit
1

Treat Jinping Mountain as the main old-city viewpoint

Jinping Mountain sits across from Langzhong Ancient City and is a practical place to see the old city, the Jialing River, and the wider mountain-water layout.

Tip:Do not squeeze it too tightly between old-city indoor sites; it is better to set aside 1-2 hours for a slower walk.
2

Start from the East Gate or a mid-slope point to save energy

If you want a fuller walk, enter from the East Gate. If you are traveling with older visitors, children, or anyone who does not want much climbing, take a taxi or drive near the mid-slope parking area before starting.

Tip:This saves energy for the viewing platform and the hilltop route.
3

Follow the viewpoint route in order

A smooth route covers Guanxing Tower, the stele forest, Du Shaoling Shrine, the viewing platform, and Zhang Xian Shrine.

Tip:For a first visit, the goal is not to check every minor spot, but to find the place where you can clearly see Langzhong Ancient City and the big bend of the Jialing River.
4

Choose afternoon or late afternoon if possible

Afternoon light is better for seeing the old-city rooftops and river surface, and late afternoon also connects well with Nanjinguan or riverside night views.

Tip:In summer, avoid midday. The hill is quieter than the old city, but there is still sun exposure, stairs, and insects.
Highlights
  • One of the best high points for seeing Langzhong Ancient City and the bend of the Jialing River.
  • The hill route is not too heavy, making it suitable for a 1-2 hour light walk.
  • Guanxing Tower, Du Shaoling Shrine, and the stele forest add cultural stops beyond the viewpoint.
  • It can be paired with Nanjinguan, the floating bridge, and Jialing River night views on the same side of the river.
  • For photographers, afternoon and late afternoon are more worthwhile than midday.
Insider Tips

If your main goal is the old-city panorama, you do not need to cover every small site on the mountain. Prioritize the viewing platform.

Wear comfortable shoes. The hill paths and stairs are not very difficult, but the round trip still takes energy.

Continuing to Nanjinguan after descending is convenient, but do not expect Nanjinguan to feel like a deep historic town.

In summer, bring water, sun protection, and insect repellent. Supplies on the mountain may not be convenient.

Haze or fog will reduce the distant views, so the value of the visit depends heavily on visibility.
