Enter from the Foziling Reservoir Scenic Area visitor centre

Foziling Reservoir is in Foziling Town, Huoshan County, Lu'an. For a paid visit, navigate to the “Foziling Reservoir Scenic Area Visitor Centre/Ticket Office” and enter from there. The main experience covers the multi-arch dam, the walkway on top and the surrounding lake views, and usually takes about 1.5–2 hours.

If you only want a distant view of the dam, navigate to Foziling Bridge or the Power Station Bridgehead bus stop. You can walk onto the bridge or pause beside the lake. This is a different route from paid entry to the scenic area; there are only a few free parking spaces nearby, and they are more limited during public holidays.

Tickets, opening hours and internal activities

The reference adult ticket is CNY 40. Students and visitors aged 60–64 can receive half-price admission with valid proof; visitors aged 65 and over and children under 1.2 metres enter free. Advance booking is usually not required, and concession or free-entry applications follow the document requirements on the day.

Reference opening hours are 07:20–18:00 from March to October and 08:00–16:30 from November to February. The scenic shuttle is about CNY 20 per person and runs from the ticket office to the top of the dam. Boat trips cost about CNY 60–80 per person and are optional extra activities.

Choose your visit

The multi-arch dam, the dam-top walkway and the lake

The main sights at Foziling Reservoir are the multi-arch dam, the walkway on top and the lake scenery around it. Walking close to the dam lets you see the repeated arch structure. From the top, you can look over the lake, its islands and the mountains around Foziling.

The historic Chinese slogan “一定要把淮河修好” is a common photo stop on the dam. The dam also suits visitors interested in China's water-conservancy history, industrial-heritage photography or a light educational outing with children.

Paid entry, a bridge viewpoint or Wujishan

Paid entry suits visitors who want to walk across the dam, visit the water-conservancy exhibition hall and descend from the eastern side to the foot of the dam or the lakeside. Foziling Bridge suits visitors who only want a free distant view of the dam and a short lakeside walk. The entrances and parking locations are different.

Wujishan is another free viewpoint nearby. Navigate to “Wujishan” or “Zhujiawan Laoliu Parking Lot (朱家塆老刘停车场)”, then walk or drive to the summit viewing platform. Depending on the weather, you may see sunrise and a sea of clouds over Foziling Reservoir. Wujishan is outside the reservoir's internal route, so its road and parking need to be arranged separately.

Build your day

Main route: cross the dam and descend to the lakeside

Enter through the visitor centre → take the scenic shuttle or walk to the top of the dam according to the access arrangements on the day → walk from the west side to the east side, viewing the multi-arch structure at close range → visit the free water-conservancy exhibition hall along the way → descend by the eastern path → view the full dam from the foot of the dam or the lakeside lawn → return along the route open that day. Allow about 1.5–2 hours.

The accessible area between the dam top and the foot of the dam may be affected by management arrangements on the day; follow the route open on site. The dam top is about 500 metres long and has almost no shade, so bring sun protection and drinking water in summer.

Short route: a free distant view from Foziling Bridge

Navigate to Foziling Bridge or the Power Station Bridgehead bus stop → find an available parking space nearby → walk onto the bridge for a panoramic view of the dam → walk beside the lake, then leave. Allow about 30–60 minutes. This route does not enter the paid scenic-area route.

There are only a few free parking spaces near the bridge, and holidays may bring full parking areas or traffic congestion. Follow on-site safety guidance for parking and walking, and do not cross bridge or waterside boundaries for photographs.

Wujishan and a nearby self-drive route

For sunrise, a sea of clouds and a panoramic view of the reservoir, visit the Wujishan summit viewing platform in the early morning or afternoon. The paid visit to Foziling Reservoir can take place during another part of the same day. Wujishan's mountain road, parking and weather conditions need to be checked separately.

Foziling Reservoir can also be combined with mountain attractions around Huoshan on a multi-day self-drive route. Boat trips do not operate on a fixed daily schedule and may be affected by the season, water level and on-site arrangements. If you want to take a boat or visit an island, confirm the activity status, price and route separately.

Get there

Drive to the visitor centre or a viewpoint

For paid entry, navigate to the “Foziling Reservoir Scenic Area Visitor Centre/Ticket Office”, park at the visitor centre and buy a ticket. The scenic-area car park has a reference charge of about CNY 10 per day. For a free distant view, navigate to Foziling Bridge or the Power Station Bridgehead bus stop, then walk over according to the available parking conditions on site.

Inside the scenic area, you may take the sightseeing shuttle or walk to the top of the dam according to the day's access arrangements. The accessible areas around the dam top, dam foot and lakeside walkway may change, so follow the signs after entering.

Public transport and movement inside the scenic area

Public transport to Foziling Reservoir is inconvenient. Visitors from outside the area usually need to reach Huoshan or Foziling first, then change to local transport or take a taxi. Confirm the service, drop-off point and return option before travelling; driving is more convenient if you plan to continue to other Huoshan attractions.

Inside the scenic area, the shuttle only handles the internal transfer between the ticket office and dam top. Crossing the dam, descending to the foot of the dam and walking beside the lake still require walking. The boat trip is a water activity and does not replace the land route.

Know before you go

Sun exposure, walking and photography time

The dam top is about 500 metres long, open and almost entirely without shade. In summer, use sun protection and bring drinking water. The dam, slopes and lakeside areas may be slippery after rain; take care with your footing and observe the on-site boundaries when photographing near the water.

Direct midday sunlight can make dam photographs overexposed, and the walking experience feels hotter. Morning or late afternoon is better for photographing the dam structure. For sunrise and a sea of clouds, leave the time for Wujishan and check the weather and road conditions in advance.

Tickets, shuttle and boat trips

The reference adult ticket is CNY 40, the scenic shuttle is CNY 20 per person, and boat trips cost about CNY 60–80 per person. Discounts and free admission for students, visitors aged 60–64, visitors aged 65 and over and children follow the document requirements on the day. Boat trips are not a core part of the visit, and their operating dates and routes may change with the season and water level.

If you only want a panoramic view of the dam, Foziling Bridge offers a free viewpoint outside the scenic area. If you want to walk on top of the dam, visit the water-conservancy exhibition hall and descend to the foot of the dam, enter through the visitor centre and buy a ticket. Paid entry and the bridge viewpoint use different entrances and parking locations.

Nearby food and rest

Jiuhong Shancaiyuan (Foziling branch) can be a meal stop on the return drive. Xiangcun Renjia Farmhouse and Chenjiaxiao Farmhouse also serve local dishes such as reservoir fish, fish-head soup, pork ribs with chestnuts, maocaogen (茅草根) and guoba (锅巴). Restaurant opening and dishes depend on the day.

If you stop at the bridge or Wujishan, nearby supplies may not be available continuously, so bring drinking water and simple snacks. Foziling Reservoir, Wujishan and other nearby attractions each have their own entrance, parking and route arrangements.
