Plan at a glance

Free coast and tide-dependent access

Jingsha Black Hole is near Jingsha Village and Tanshui Village in northern Pingtan. Common access points include the path below the Tanshui Village stone marker and Jingsha Parking Lot. The beach and outer viewpoints are free to enter and can be reached throughout the day, but entering the cave is possible only during a suitable low-tide window. Stay outside when the tide is rising.

An outer visit takes about 0.5-1 hour. First-time visitors who enter during low tide and continue to the hilltop viewpoint should allow about 1.5-2 hours. The tide determines whether the route works, so a calendar date or daytime opening alone is not enough to plan it.

Who it suits

This stop suits visitors interested in coastal landforms, dark rocks, and outdoor photography. Reaching the cave involves walking on wet rocks, and marine life may be present in the cave and rock crevices. Older adults, children, and visitors who dislike insects can stay at the outer beach and viewpoint.

Choose your visit

The cave and sea-eroded landforms

The Black Hole is a natural sea cave. At low tide, a route into it may emerge, while the light and reflections inside change with the weather, tide, and time. Photographers can frame the entrance or outer area when access is open; avoid going deeper or staying too long for a photo.

Dark volcanic rock, white surf, and blue water form Jingsha's main coastal scene. Rocks are wetter and may look darker on overcast days or after wind and rain, but they are also more slippery. The outer viewpoint is a usable alternative at any time.

Hilltop viewpoint and wind-turbine coast

The hilltop viewpoint looks over the dark beach, wind turbines, and sea. It is a good main stop when the cave cannot be entered. Cloud, wind, and visibility affect the view, so leave room for weather changes.

Jingsha Black Hole suits photography and outdoor experiences rather than an easy family beach outing. With children, choose the outer rocks and viewpoint first. Adults should also wear shoes with good grip and understand the return route after the tide goes out.

Build your day

Outer route: about 0.5-1 hour

Navigate to the Tanshui Village stone marker or Jingsha Parking Lot. Follow the metal-frame walkway down to the Black Beach, stop at the beach and outer rocks for photos, and return the same way. This route does not enter the cave and suits visitors with limited time, an unsuitable tide, or an interest in the coastal colors only.

If the tide is already rising, the path is too slippery, or the site displays a closure notice, use the outer route directly. The outer area still shows the dark rocks and coastline, so there is no need to change the safety plan to enter the cave.

Low-tide route: about 1.5-2 hours

From the parking area, follow the boardwalk to Black Beach. Confirm that the water is going out and that there is enough time to return before approaching the cave along the dark rocks within the open area. After taking photos, return to the outer area immediately, then climb to the viewpoint for views of the turbines and dark beach.

Leave the cave and wet-rock area at least 1 hour before the tide rises. Return immediately if the water comes back, waves grow, or the route is covered. Do not continue searching for a deeper cave angle.

A half-day northern combination

Jingsha can be combined with Xianren Well, Beigang Village, the coastal road, and Changjiang'ao, but the tide determines when to place it. If you visit Xianren Well or Beigang first, check the Jingsha low-tide window in advance. If you miss it, make Jingsha an outer-area short stop or cancel it.

The Changjiang'ao sunset and the Jingsha low-tide window may fall at different times. Leave time for the road transfer and parking. When combining northern stops, schedule the tide-dependent Jingsha visit first and decide afterward whether there is time for the others.

Get there

Driving and choosing an entrance

When driving, navigate to Tanshui Village or Yuanyuan Mountain and use the road signs to find parking. Parking at the Jingsha village entrance may be charged or restricted during peak periods. Spaces at Jingsha Parking Lot are limited, so arrive early and confirm the direction of the return route.

Searching only for "Jingsha Black Hole" may send you on a longer route. After reaching the Tanshui Village stone marker, follow the open path and on-site signs. You can also use entrance information around Yuanyuan Mountain, then confirm the walking route before continuing.

Pingtan Station, taxis, and electric scooters

A taxi from Pingtan Station commonly takes about 30 minutes. An electric scooter suits visitors who want flexibility between northern stops. Northern buses are infrequent, so do not rely on them as the only return option. For a taxi, plan the return in advance because a remote coast may involve a long wait.

After parking, reaching the Black Beach and cave still involves walking, downhill sections, and rocks. The map time may only cover the village entrance or parking area; add the boardwalk, tide window, and return walk to the actual visit.

Know before you go

The tide controls the route

Check the day's low-tide time before entering the cave and make sure there is at least 1 hour to get back from the cave to the outer area. Water can enter quickly as the tide rises. Leave immediately if the water rises or waves cross the route you used to enter.

Never enter the sea cave on a rising tide. Stay behind barriers and away from closure notices or obstacles you cannot identify. If the tide or route conditions are unclear, take photos at the entrance and outer rocks, or switch to the hilltop viewpoint.

Wet rocks and on-site photography

Reaching the cave may require using your hands on wet rocks. Wear shoes with good grip and do not wear flip-flops. Marine life may be present in the cave and rock crevices; visitors who dislike insects can stop at the entrance. Leave enough room in every photography stop for the return.

During peak periods, people may occupy the cave entrance for photos or offer paid photography. Decide for yourself whether to take or buy the service and confirm the price. The outer rocks can also provide coastal views, so there is no need to argue over a camera position or move toward a dangerous area.
