Plan at a glance

A coastal road with several viewpoints

The Northern Ecological Corridor is a long coastal route in northern Pingtan, made up of the road and several viewpoints from F1 to F5. The usual starting point is around the F1 viewpoint, or you can navigate to the Northern Bay Ecological Corridor. It is not a small park that can be completed on foot after getting out of the car; visitors move between separate stops.

The corridor is open all day. Sightseeing buses commonly operate around 08:00-17:00, but the season and on-site arrangements can change. Paid sightseeing buses run between F1 and F5, with a common price reference of CNY 30. Roads, viewpoints, glass walkways, and other facilities may be free to access, but confirm what is open that day.

Traffic controls and time needed

In peak season or on holidays, private cars may face access restrictions and one-way traffic. Cars are often allowed only as far as F1, where visitors transfer to a sightseeing bus for F2-F5. Completing the main stops usually takes about 1.5-3 hours. Allow half a day if driving or riding between Beigang Village, Changjiang'ao, and other northern stops.

This suits photographers, drivers, cyclists, and visitors who enjoy coastal scenery. Roads are sloped, and some viewpoints are windy and exposed to the sun. With older adults or children, consider the bus, walking distances, and the return plan before setting out.

Choose your visit

F2: glass walkway and bends in the road

F2 is a good place to view the coastal road and glass walkway, with bends, wind turbines, and the shoreline in one scene. The glass walkway's open area, fee, and crowd levels may change. Visitors who dislike heights or are not comfortable on elevated paths can stay in the standard viewpoint area.

F3 and F4: cliff views and short stops

F3 focuses on cliffside sea views, while F4 has stops such as Wishing Stone. The walking and slopes between stations add effort. In strong wind or on wet ground, shorten the visit and return along the open road.

These stations work best as one coastal landscape of sea, turbines, and road rather than as a checklist of long stops. Take photos from the viewing areas, away from the road and the outside of barriers.

F5: high views and sunset

F5 sits higher on the corridor and looks over the wind turbines, coast, and nearby villages. Evening light can be good for viewing the sea, but visibility, cloud, and wind affect the result. Plan around what the conditions provide that day.

If you want sunset at F5, confirm the last sightseeing-bus service and return direction in advance. Wind and visibility may change after sunset, so the outward travel time alone is not enough to plan the return.

Build your day

Sightseeing-bus route: about 1.5 hours

In peak season or when you do not want to drive a long distance, reach F1 first and take the sightseeing bus to F5. Return through the open stations, getting off at F2 for the glass walkway and at other suitable stops. Whether the bus allows boarding at every station, its direction, and the wait time depend on the day's arrangements.

With limited time, prioritize F2 and F5, then decide on F3 and F4 according to the queue and weather. Choose stops as conditions allow, and leave enough time to return to F1 and leave the corridor.

Full station route: about 3 hours

Start at F1, continue through F2, F3, F4, and F5, then return by sightseeing bus or along an open road. F2 has the glass walkway and road bends, F3 the cliff views, F4 a short-stop area, and F5 the higher view over the turbines and coast.

Slopes, steps, and exposed sections may occur between stations, so allow extra time for a slower walking pace. With strong wind, rain, a closed glass walkway, or a long bus queue, reducing the number of stops is better than forcing the complete route.

A half-day northern combination

With half a day, combine the Northern Ecological Corridor with Beigang Village, the coastal road, and Changjiang'ao. If you visit the corridor first and then continue along the coast to Beigang or Changjiang'ao, set the order around traffic controls and sunset.

This northern combination does not use one shared ticket. Confirm parking, the sightseeing bus, village parking, and beach facilities separately. Remove later stops if traffic or access restrictions slow the route.

Get there

Driving and the F1 transfer

When driving, navigate to "Northern Bay Ecological Corridor" or "F1 Viewpoint (Qingfeng Village)." In peak season, private cars may be allowed only as far as F1, with a sightseeing-bus transfer to F2-F5. Confirm access restrictions, one-way traffic, and parking on the day.

Parking at F1 and the other viewpoints is limited. F2 may charge for parking and can fill up quickly. Use formal parking areas, and keep roadside stops away from bends, blind spots, and traffic lanes.

Electric scooters and the sightseeing bus

Renting an electric scooter from Pingtan Station gives you flexibility. Typical rental prices are around CNY 80-120 per day. The northern route is long and hilly, while F2-F5 are windy and exposed, so keep a generous battery reserve. If the wind becomes too strong or you run out of energy, transfer at F1 or return directly.

The sightseeing bus commonly costs around CNY 30 per person and mainly serves F1-F5. Confirm the direction, last departure, and boarding rules before getting on. You still need to walk at each stop after leaving F1.

Know before you go

Access restrictions, one-way traffic, and changes

During summer holidays and public holidays, private-car restrictions may apply during the day. Traffic inside the corridor may also run one way from F1 to F5. Check the day's signs before departure and again at F1 rather than assuming a private car can drive to F5 every day.

The glass walkway, viewpoints, sightseeing bus, and other facilities may change because of weather, maintenance, or local management. Confirm the open area before paying for or using a service, and follow the alternative route or end the visit if a section is closed.

Wind, sun, and walking

The coastal sections are windy with little shade. Bring a hat with a chin cord, a light jacket, drinking water, and sun protection. Wear shoes with good grip for the slopes, steps, and elevated sections between F2 and F5. Do not push older adults or children to complete the full route.

Small insects can be common around Jingsha and Maotouqian. Bring insect repellent. Take photos from the viewing areas, not from the road, cliff edge, or outside of barriers.
