Name and location

Gorlos Museum is on the fifth floor of the library at the Ethnic Sports Stadium on Wulan Street in Qianguo County seat. Its entrance is inside the library complex. Search for “郭尔罗斯博物馆” or “前郭县图书馆,” then follow the museum signs inside the building to the fifth floor.

Gorlos Museum is on the fifth floor of Qianguo County Library, while Jinyuan Museum is at Jinzhuan Plaza in Ningjiang District. The two museums have different addresses and registration status. The Qianguo museum focuses on local history, Mongolian folk customs and natural resources.

Galleries and collection overview

The museum occupies about 1,480 square metres, with about 1,000 square metres of exhibition space. A 2017 venue profile from the Jilin Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism recorded 6,876 cultural relics in the collection; use the museum’s latest count for current holdings. The exhibitions are arranged in three themed galleries: history, ethnic folk customs, and natural resources. Choose what to see based on your interests.

Admission and opening

Admission is free. Opening arrangements may change by season, and different sources list different days and hours. Before travelling, confirm whether it is open that day, whether it closes at midday, the last admission time and any ID registration requirements.

Choose your visit

History gallery

The history gallery covers the late Paleolithic and Neolithic periods, the Liao and Jin periods, and the Yuan, Ming, Qing and Republican eras. Models, reconstructed scenes, paintings, sculptures and artefacts present the county’s history. If time is limited, follow the timeline and pause at the periods that interest you most.

Ethnic folk customs gallery

The ethnic folk customs gallery introduces Mongolian clothing, food, housing and transportation, production and daily life, religious beliefs, and cultural and recreational activities. Displays include recreated scenes, objects and images. Notice how everyday objects relate to the scenes, and follow gallery instructions on photography and touching exhibits.

Natural resources gallery

The natural resources gallery presents aquatic products, plants, animal husbandry and wetland birds from Qianguo County through habitat dioramas and specimens. It pairs well with the history and folk customs galleries, offering another way to understand the county through its environment and livelihoods.

How long to stay

The museum suits visitors who want to learn about Qianguo County’s history, Mongolian customs and local natural environment, and families looking for a local-culture visit. Allow about 30–45 minutes for a quick look. If you plan to read the panels in each gallery, allow about an hour or longer, depending on which galleries are open that day.

Build your day

Suggested route through the three fifth-floor galleries, about 30–45 minutes

Enter through the library complex and follow the signs to the museum on the fifth floor. A suggested order is the history gallery, the ethnic folk customs gallery, then the natural resources gallery. This order follows the themes; the actual layout and visiting order depend on the guide map and galleries open that day. Afterwards, follow the signs inside the building back to the library entrance.

A more detailed visit, about one hour

If all three galleries are open, follow the actual route through each one. To spend more time, choose displays that interest you, such as the history panels, everyday objects in the folk customs gallery or natural resource exhibits. Do not enter areas that are closed to visitors to follow the thematic order. If the building guide uses a different sequence, follow the on-site directions. Before leaving, note the route from the fifth floor back to the library entrance.

Get there

Navigate to the library complex

For map navigation, search for “郭尔罗斯博物馆” (Gorlos Museum) or “前郭县图书馆” (Qianguo County Library). The museum is on the fifth floor of the Qianguo County Library building on Wulan Street, with the Ethnic Sports Stadium as an additional location reference.

Some maps and sources list the address as 1566 Wulan Street. On arrival, follow the signs for the library and museum to the fifth floor. Do not confuse this location with Jinyuan Museum in Ningjiang District.

Bus and enquiries

Bus route 6 has previously used the Stadium stop nearby. Routes and stop names may change, so check the stops and walking section on a current bus map before travelling. You can call 0438-6826880 to enquire first. Other phone numbers also appear online; when connected, confirm that you have reached the museum before asking about that day’s opening hours.

Know before you go

Confirm that day’s arrangements

Publicly listed hours vary by season and weekends. Friday arrangements and the current regular weekly schedule are unclear. When calling, ask at once about the opening day, midday closure, last admission, reservations and ID requirements. If you have a passport or another non-resident identity document, confirm the registration process with the museum first.

Visiting inside the library

The museum is on the fifth floor of a library. Follow the signs inside the building, keep your voice down and avoid disturbing library visitors. Information about parking, guided tours, restrooms and accessible lifts is incomplete; if you need any of these, confirm the facilities and services available that day.
