The summit statue and city views
Gande'er Mountain’s main peak is about 1,805 metres above sea level. At the summit is an 88.95-metre bronze bust of Genghis Khan. The viewing platform looks out over the Yellow River, desert, mountains and Wuhai city. The statue contains exhibition space; which areas are open depends on the day’s arrangements.
The visitor centre and summit options
The cable car departs from the Gande'er Mountain Scenic Area Visitor Centre (甘德尔山生态景区游客中心). You can view the statue from the foot of the mountain or take the cable car to the summit and visit the statue. When planning, consider your ability to walk, the time available and operating arrangements for that day.
Scenic-area hours and cable-car schedule
The scenic area’s page recently listed 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. as its opening hours. Cable-car times and the ticket cut-off need to be confirmed separately. For ticket enquiries, call 0473-2112361.
Before buying, check ticket types, prices and inclusions for the cable car and museum. If the ticket does not make these clear, confirm with the scenic area first.

Choose your visit
View the statue from the foot of the mountain | About 30 minutes
If you have limited time or do not plan to take the cable car, view the statue from a clearly permitted viewpoint or parking area near the visitor centre. Allow about 30 minutes. This route does not enter the statue or go to the summit. Along nearby roads, stop for photos only at legal parking spots and safe viewpoints.
The statue may also be visible from distant city viewpoints, including Wuhai Lake Pier No. 1 (乌海湖一号码头), but the cable-car entrance is at the Gande'er Mountain Scenic Area Visitor Centre. Navigate directly to the visitor centre when taking the cable car.
Take the cable car to the summit | About 3–4 hours
The summit visit suits people who want city-and-mountain views, want to see the exhibition inside the statue and can manage the stairs. After taking the cable car up, you still need to walk approximately 600 stair steps to the statue entrance. If stairs are difficult or you are uncomfortable with high cable cars, choose the foot-of-the-mountain viewpoint instead.
Build your day
Cable-car summit route from the visitor centre
Take the cable car from the visitor centre, then follow the open route on foot to the Genghis Khan Statue. Visit the exhibition areas that are open, then continue to the viewing platform. Return to the cable-car station by the same route and take the cable car down. Waiting for the cable car, queues, walking speed on the stairs and the areas open inside the statue all affect the total time.
It is approximately 600 stair steps from the upper cable-car station to the statue entrance. Include both cable-car rides and the walk in your plan. If the last cable-car time has not been confirmed, set out early to avoid having to rush for the final service.
Check the schedule before deciding to enter the statue
If strong winds or equipment maintenance stop the cable car, view the statue from the foot of the mountain instead. Do not climb on closed mountain paths. Check on-site notices to see whether add-ons such as VR are open and whether they cost extra.
Get there
Navigate to the visitor centre
If driving, search for Gande'er Mountain Scenic Area Visitor Centre (甘德尔山生态景区游客中心) in Haibowan District’s Kabuchi Subdistrict, Wuhai. The drive from the city takes about 20 minutes, depending on your starting point and road conditions. Parking is available at the foot of the mountain. Check signs for parking charges and which roads are open that day.
Bus routes and schedules have not been confirmed. If travelling by bus, check both the outbound and return services on the day. If using a taxi or ride-hailing car, arrange your return ride in advance and confirm whether the driver will wait or collect you at an agreed time.
Know before you go
Last cable cars and ticket details
The scenic area recently listed its opening hours as 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Ask separately about the cable-car ticket cut-off, last ride up, last ride down, bundle inclusions and the latest time to enter the statue. Strong winds may temporarily stop the cable car.
Call 0473-2112361 to check the cable-car schedule and which areas inside the statue are open. If operations do not suit your plans that day, you can stay at the foot of the mountain and view the statue from there.
Stairs, wind and indoor access
There are approximately 600 stair steps between the cable-car station and the statue entrance. Decide whether to go up based on your ability to walk. Visitors with limited mobility should ask the scenic area whether an accessible route is available. It is windy at the summit, so bring a windproof layer and drinking water, and wear shoes suitable for stairs.
Access to the museum inside the statue and the viewing platform may change. Before entering, ask staff which floors are open and when they close.
