How to Visit
1

Plan a half-day journey

From central Yulin, plan the trip toward Mahuangliang as a half-day excursion beyond the city. Self-driving or a hired car is the practical choice for the park's dispersed viewpoints and the return journey.

Tip:Do not treat the park as a short city-center stop.
2

Confirm the open areas first

On arrival, learn which areas and internal transport are operating that day before deciding how far to walk. Lakeside and viewpoint distances are substantial.

Tip:Do not assume the full circuit is an easy stroll.
3

Use the main landscape stops

Use the lakeside loess scenery, Shouting Boat Island, Tiger Plateau, and viewing platforms as the main stops. If the geological museum is open, it adds context on loess formation and landforms.

Tip:Stay on open routes rather than attempting non-open terrain.
4

Plan the sunset and return

Allow three to four hours. If sunset is a priority, also account for the final walk, internal transport, and the return to Yulin.

Tip:Do not let late light compromise a safe and timely return.
Highlights
  • Water, loess gullies, and sections of red sandstone create a layered open landscape.
  • Viewpoints show how the loess pinnacles, lake edge, and plateau terrain relate to each other.
  • Tiger Plateau adds a sculptural stop alongside the natural landforms.
  • The geological museum can add landform and fossil context to the outdoor visit.
Insider Tips

The terrain is open with limited shade. In summer, prioritize sun protection and water; in spring and autumn, bring wind protection.

Do not assume each stop has long waiting time. If sightseeing vehicles operate that day, confirm the route, stops, and return arrangement first.

Conditions vary across lakeside paths, slopes, and platforms. Wear non-slip shoes, and avoid wet, soft, or non-open ground after rain.

Supplies may be limited inside the park, so bring water and simple food and take all rubbish away with you.

Do not treat drone flights, non-open trails, or seasonal services as standard visitor activities.
