Plan at a glance

Choose the gate by your next stop

Leizhou West Lake Park is at 37 West Lake Avenue. The main gate is by West Lake Avenue, while the west gate is closer to Leizhou Museum. The park is free and open all day, with 6:00–22:00 being the most practical visiting window; if you are also visiting the museum, starting from the west-gate side saves a needless walk back.

A short stop, not a full-day attraction

Thirty to sixty minutes is enough for Su Gong Pavilion, Nine-Bend Bridge, the Ten Worthies Shrine and the lakeside. Allow 1.5–2 hours if you want the Song Garden, Laiquan Well and the park paths as well. West Lake is small and works best as part of a Leizhou half-day with the museum, Tianning Temple or Sanyuan Pagoda Park, rather than as a stand-alone long-distance trip.

Choose your visit

A 30–60 minute through-route

Enter through the main gate, go first to Su Gong Pavilion and its lotus pool, walk across Nine-Bend Bridge to the Ten Worthies Shrine, then leave through the west gate and continue on foot to Leizhou Museum. This suits visitors with limited time or a museum booking. It covers the lake, pavilion, shrine and historical thread without using energy on repeated loops around the water.

Start a half-day city walk here

For a half-day route, use the morning for West Lake and the museum, eat in Qujie at midday, then continue to Sanyuan Pagoda Park and Tianning Temple before going to Drum Town near dusk. West Lake then works as a quiet start and historical introduction, rather than a place where you try to spend all your time by the lake.

Build your day

See Su Gong Pavilion and the Ten Worthies Shrine first

Su Gong Pavilion, the Ten Worthies Shrine, Nine-Bend Bridge and the willow-lined shore form the most concentrated part of West Lake. Start with the pavilion and shrine, then leave the bridge and water for a slower walk. Laiquan Well and the former Junyuan Academy in the Song Garden make a useful second section; the lake is small, so it is better to pause for inscriptions and water views than to rush it.

Morning and evening have different trade-offs

Early morning is quieter with softer light, making it better for the lakeside and pavilion-and-bridge photos. Evenings are cooler, but may bring exercise groups, square dancing and more local leisure visitors. For a fuller old-city day, photograph the garden details in daylight and keep the evening for Qujie or Drum Town instead of lingering here too long.

Get there

Park on the edge rather than at the gate

Navigate to Leizhou West Lake Park. The Garden Hotel car park and the park's self-drive camping area are useful choices, with the camping area charging a maximum of about CNY 15 for 24 hours. Spaces near the main gate are limited and can clog up on holidays; once parked, walking to the museum is faster than moving the car again.

Use the bus station as the public-transport anchor

From central Zhanjiang, travel first to Leizhou Main Bus Station, then take a taxi or shared e-bike into the city, a trip of about 10 minutes. West Lake, the museum, Tianning Temple and Sanyuan Pagoda are close together, so an e-bike is more flexible than taking separate taxis and makes it easy to continue to Qujie afterward.

Know before you go

Quiet time and mosquitoes both matter

There are local exercise and leisure activities in the park early and late in the day, so visitors seeking a quieter experience should avoid those busier windows or come earlier in the morning. The lake edge and paths have exposed sections, while planted areas attract mosquitoes, so bring both sun protection and repellent.

Do not rely on the park gate for lunch

Some restaurants around the park open only later in the day and may not be useful at lunch. Decide in advance whether to eat at Nanhu Snack Street or wait for Qujie. West Lake does not need a long visit, so going straight on to the museum, Tianning Temple or Sanyuan Pagoda is usually the best use of the day; if you drove, return to the same parking area before dinner.
