Plan at a glance
Focus on sunrise at East Juyan Lake
The main visit is to East Juyan Lake (东居延海, 苏泊淖尔) and its lakeside viewing platforms; sunrise is a common reason to come early. The scenic area is north of Dalaihubu Town (达来呼布镇), and the return journey is long.
Check the first shuttle in advance
Walking and shuttle transfers between platforms affect how much of sunrise you can see. For Platform 3, check whether a direct shuttle from the entrance is running or whether the first departure from Platform 2 leaves enough time for the transfer; otherwise, plan to watch from Platform 2.

Choose your visit
Platform 3: a wide lake view
Platform 3 offers a more open view and can be an alternative spot for sunrise. Whether the sun appears to rise over the lake depends on the weather and visibility; clouds, wind-driven waves, or mist can change the view.
Platform 2: reeds and waterbirds
Platform 2 is a good place to look for reeds and waterbirds along the shore. Observe the wetland quietly while waiting for a transfer and keep a respectful distance from the birds.
Migratory birds
During migration seasons, you may see birds such as black-headed gulls, Eurasian spoonbills, and swan geese. Species vary by season and local conditions that day. Binoculars offer a better view than getting close to the birds.
As you visit the platforms, look out for both the reed beds and waterbirds. Birdlife and water conditions change through the seasons.
Build your day
A short sunrise visit
Leave Dalaihubu Town early. Use the Platform 3 route only if a direct shuttle or the transfer from Platform 2 gets you there in time for sunrise.
If the first available route goes to Platform 2, use its departure time and sunrise time to decide whether to continue. If there is not enough time, watch from Platform 2 rather than waiting there and missing sunrise. Allow time for the return trip whichever platform you choose.
Viewing space at Platform 3 may be limited during peak season. Follow crowd directions and keep narrow paths clear. If you miss sunrise, you can still look for reeds and waterbirds.
Adjust the viewing route to that day's transport
If you have more time, start at Platform 2 to see the reeds and waterbirds, then decide whether to take the shuttle to Platform 3 based on the schedule. For the return, walk or take a shuttle if those options are open. Use the day's guide and staff instructions for platform names, stops, and routes.
Treat the Sacred Tree (苏泊淖尔神树) as a separate short stop; it is not assumed to be included in the Juyan Lake ticket. If you want to visit it on the same day, confirm its location, road access, and any separate charge.
Get there
From Dalaihubu Town
The scenic area is north of town. Confirm the entrance using the scenic area's current visitor information before setting out. If driving, fill up in town and check what supplies are available along the way and near the scenic area. If you are not driving, book a chartered or shared ride in advance and agree on a return time; finding a car on demand after sunrise is not a good plan.
For an early-morning visit, allow extra time for the drive from town, parking, and entry; travel time depends on your route and road conditions.
Transfers between viewing platforms
After entering, use the day's route map for the boarding point between Platforms 2 and 3, departure times, and return direction. Follow staff instructions for walking or transferring.
Know before you go
Tickets and hours follow the current notice
Autumn arrangements published by Juyan Tourism on 28 September 2026 list Juyan Lake as open 05:30–20:00, with ticket sales and entry stopping at 19:00. This schedule applies to autumn 2026 only. Before your visit, confirm the ticket, reservation, sightseeing shuttle, and final entry time for your date.
Dress warmly at dawn and follow wetland rules
It can be windy by the lake in the early morning, and it may feel colder than in town. Wear warm layers, a hat, and a windproof jacket; bring hot water, sun protection, and shoes suitable for walking. Check on site whether clothing rental or other supplies are available.
Do not feed the birds bread or other food on your own. If feeding is permitted, follow the site's instructions and use only the approved method. Stay out of closed wetland areas and do not approach birds for photos.
Bring water and a simple breakfast
Bring drinking water and a simple breakfast before entering early in the morning. Plan a full meal back in Dalaihubu Town after the visit.
