How to Visit
1

Decide front mountain or rear mountain first

Front Mountain is the Taoist-culture route with temples, built paths, and a clearer half-day plan. Rear Mountain is a longer nature hike and uses a separate ticket.

Tip:Do not buy one ticket expecting to move between both areas.
2

Use Qingchengshan Station as the transport anchor

Most visitors come from Chengdu via Xipu and Qingchengshan Station. After arrival, use the scenic transport or a taxi because the walk from the station to the gate is longer than it looks on a map.

Tip:Build transfer time into the day.
3

Choose cableway support if you want a lighter route

A common easier route uses Yuecheng Lake, the cableway, Shangqing Palace, Laojun Pavilion, and then a walked descent through temple sections.

Tip:The cableway saves effort but does not remove all climbing.
4

Keep the temple route simple

Prioritize Tianshi Cave, Shangqing Palace, Laojun Pavilion, and the forested paths between them. Trying to chase every side temple can make the day slow and tiring.

Tip:This mountain is better when paced calmly.
5

Leave before the last transport pressure

Start descending with enough time for the scenic transport, the station transfer, and the return train. Rain and wet stone steps slow the route down.

Tip:A late start is the most common planning mistake.
Highlights
  • Taoist temples and forest paths in a compact mountain route
  • Laojun Pavilion and Shangqing Palace as the main high points
  • Cableway-assisted route for travelers who do not want a full climb
  • Good pairing with Dujiangyan city if you split the trip across two days
  • More cultural and structured than Qingcheng Rear Mountain
Insider Tips

Bring a light layer because the mountain can feel cooler and damp.

Use shoes with grip; stone steps become slippery after rain.

Carry water even if you plan to buy snacks on the mountain.

Do not combine Front Mountain, Rear Mountain, and Dujiangyan Scenic Area in one relaxed day.

Avoid starting after lunch unless you only want a short temple walk.
