How to Visit
1

Start from Tai'an Ancient Town

Treat Tai'an Ancient Town as the base for food, toilets, and the start or finish of the Rear Mountain route. Arrive early if you are not staying overnight nearby.

Tip:The mountain route begins after the town, not at Qingchengshan Station.
2

Choose your loop by fitness

A full loop can take 6-7 hours and covers more stream and gorge sections. A middle loop with cableway support is better for most first-time visitors. A short route works for families who mainly want forest and water.

Tip:Extra steps create real fatigue here, not just more scenery.
3

Use the cableways deliberately

Jinli Cableway and Baiyun Cableway can reduce climbing, but they do not turn the route into a flat walk. Decide before you are tired, because route branches matter.

Tip:Cableway closing time affects your exit plan.
4

Prioritize the water-and-gorge sections

Wulonggou, Feiquangou, Longyin Gorge plank path, and Cuiying Lake are the main reasons to come. Spend time there instead of forcing every distant point.

Tip:After rain, these sections can be slippery.
5

Exit before dark

The rear mountain has many stone steps and forested sections. Finish the main route while there is still daylight, then eat in Tai'an before returning to the station or your hotel.

Tip:Do not rely on night walking here.
Highlights
  • Forest, stream, waterfall, and plank-path scenery stronger than the front mountain
  • Flexible loops for short, medium, or long hiking days
  • Tai'an Ancient Town as a practical mountain base
  • Cuiying Lake and gorge sections that add variety to the walk
  • Good summer escape when Chengdu is hot
Insider Tips

Use waterproof or quick-dry shoes if rain is forecast.

Bring cash or mobile payment backup for small transport, boat, and snack costs.

Do not start the full loop in the afternoon.

Walking poles help on long downhill stair sections.

If White Cloud Temple or upper areas are under maintenance, choose a shorter loop instead of forcing the summit.
