A separate canyon and fissure experience
Luyuanping is in Xintian Village, Banqiao Township, Enshi, along 049 Township Road. This independent scenic area centres on a canyon, Xuanlu Difeng (玄鹿地缝), waterfalls and village scenery. There is one Visitor Center entrance. The main choice is whether to use the mobility services to save energy or walk down the 1,819 steps to the valley floor.
Time and energy budget
The express route takes about 3–4 hours and focuses on Xuanlu Difeng. The highlights route takes about 4–5 hours and adds the waterfalls. Expect long uphill and downhill sections, making the area a good fit for hikers and photographers. With older adults or children, include the inclined elevator in your budget; this is not a flat, easy walking attraction.

Save energy for Xuanlu Difeng
If time or energy is limited, make Xuanlu Difeng the priority. The inclined elevator costs about CNY 90 one way, and the park shuttle connects the bottom elevator station with the fissure entrance. A magic-carpet ride at the fissure exit costs about CNY 20–25. These options reduce the stairs, but you still walk inside and around the fissure.
Walk and add the waterfalls
Visitors with good stamina who want to see the valley and water scenery can choose the highlights route. Allow about one hour for the waterfall area; water levels may be lower in the dry season. Xuanlu Difeng usually takes about 1–1.5 hours, with moss, waterfalls and pools among the main sights.
Who is it suitable for?
The area suits people who enjoy hiking, photography and natural canyons, and families can visit if they are prepared for stairs and climbing. Visitors who use wheelchairs or need continuous mobility assistance should confirm the accessible areas in advance and should not plan on a fully step-free route.
Build your day
3–4-hour express route
After entering, take the downhill inclined elevator to the valley floor, then the park shuttle to the fissure entrance. Walk the main section of Xuanlu Difeng, take the magic carpet at the exit to reduce about 400 steps, and return to the park-shuttle connection before taking the uphill elevator to the Visitor Center. This route skips the waterfalls and concentrates on the main fissure scenery.
4–5-hour highlights route
From the Visitor Center, walk down about 1,819 steps to the valley floor. Visit the waterfalls first and allow about one hour, then walk to Xuanlu Difeng for about 1–1.5 hours. Take the uphill inclined elevator back to the Visitor Center after leaving the fissure. This route places noticeably more strain on the legs and knees.
Work the return buses into the route
If you plan to leave by shuttle bus, note the Visitor Center return departures at about 14:30 and 16:00 before choosing the highlights route. Transfers and walking remain between the exit, fissure and elevators, so the last bus is not suitable for a late arrival.
Get there
Dedicated shuttle bus
Take the Luyuanping shuttle bus from Enshi Bus Station. The ride takes about 2.5 hours and costs about CNY 40; outbound buses usually leave between 08:00 and 08:30. Return buses leave from outside the Visitor Center at about 14:30 and 16:00. Some vehicles may drop passengers at Enshi Grand Canyon on the way back; confirm ticketing and drop-off arrangements for the day.
Driving and parking
Drive directly to the Luyuanping Visitor Center. All visitors enter through the official Visitor Center, and parking costs about CNY 10 for stays of four hours or more. Do not attempt non-open mountain paths.
Know before you go
Opening hours, admission and changing discounts
Opening hours are about 08:30–17:00, with last entry at about 15:00. The basic admission ticket costs about CNY 128. The eligibility of the Hubei Tourism Benefit Card, mobility-service prices and daily bus departures may change, so confirm each one when purchasing.
Wet paths and mobility services
Rain makes the stairs and canyon paths slippery, so wear shoes with good grip and carry water. The inclined elevators, park shuttle, fissure magic carpet and waterfall slide are optional paid services; choose them according to your route. Even with the elevators, the fissure and its approaches still involve walking.
Food, storage and rest
There is a Jianshi flatbread stall near the steps at the Visitor Center, while supplies inside the scenic area are limited. Carry water and a small amount of food. A small shop at the Visitor Center entrance can store luggage for about CNY 10 per item; nearby farm stays are an option when the return journey would otherwise feel rushed.
Stay on open routes
Do not enter non-open mountain paths. Stay on the scenic area's open paths around Xuanlu Difeng and the waterfalls, and follow the on-site route if there are slippery sections, falling-rock risks or temporary closures.
