Enshi Tusi City is at 138 Tusi Road. Its main sights include Jiujintang (九进堂), the Tusi City Wall, Fengyu Qiao (风雨桥) and folk performances. The attraction is a modern reconstructed complex of traditional-style buildings and cultural displays, not a preserved historical Tusi palace. Visitors interested in architecture, photography and Tujia culture can allow about half a day.
Time and the first choice
The express route takes about 1–1.5 hours and focuses on Jiujintang and the city wall. The highlights route takes about 2.5–3 hours and adds Fengyu Qiao, Linjun Dian (廪君殿) and two tunnels. For current access, use the south gate and navigate to “Enshi Tusi City South Gate Parking Lot”; follow the day's scenic-area directions if the entrance arrangement changes.

See the core buildings quickly
When time is limited, prioritise Jiujintang and the Tusi City Wall. Jiujintang is a series of courtyards and timber buildings, with layered roofs and deep interior views. The city wall adds a higher view over the complex and the mountains beyond.
Take in the wider complex
With 2.5–3 hours, add Fengyu Qiao, Linjun Dian, the Tima Shenge Tunnel (梯玛神歌隧道) and the Qingjiang Bailitu Tunnel (清江百里图隧道) before spending time in Jiujintang. Folk performances may be included with admission, while stage shows can cost extra; check which type of activity you are buying.
Good for photography and family visits
The south-gate reliefs, Jiujintang's red walls and golden columns, the city wall and the towers are the main photography subjects. There are stairs, but no long mountain hike. Traditional clothing rentals are available if you want them; families should also consider the crowds around performances and the pace of the stairs.
Build your day
1–1.5-hour express route
Enter through the south gate and follow the Tima Shenge Tunnel and the Qingjiang Bailitu Tunnel to Jiujintang. Visit its main courtyards, then climb to the Tusi City Wall for the view and return via the Bell and Drum Towers to the south gate. If you want to see a performance, leave time at the Jiujintang theatre or the south-gate square.
2.5–3-hour highlights route
Enter through the south gate, visit Fengyu Qiao and Linjun Dian first, then move into Jiujintang and allow about one hour for its courtyards and timber details. Continue to the Tusi City Wall and return towards the south gate via the Bell and Drum Towers. This route avoids backtracking and connects the main spaces for a first visit.
Performances and evening visits
Admission-included folk performances may take place at the south-gate square, the Jiujintang theatre or the front square, with shows in the morning and afternoon. Check the day's notice for times. The attraction usually closes and stops admitting visitors in the evening; a regular night tour is not a daily offering. For a separate evening visit, go to Daughter City.
Get there
Bus or taxi
Take city buses 6 or 30 to the “Tusi City” stop. A taxi from the railway station or airport takes about 15 minutes and costs about CNY 20. Use “Enshi Tusi City South Gate” as the walking and ticketing target, and follow the day's directions if the entrance arrangement changes.
Driving and parking
Drive to the south-gate parking lot; parking costs about CNY 5 per hour. Do not navigate directly to the east-gate entrance. If the entrance arrangement changes on the day, follow the local traffic directions.
Know before you go
Tickets and opening hours
Adult admission costs about CNY 45, or about CNY 40–42 when booked online. Students and visitors aged 60–69 can receive half-price admission with valid identification. Complex reservations are usually not required, but advance purchase can help on holidays. Hours are about 07:30–18:00 from April to October and 08:00–17:30 from November to March; follow the day's notice for admission and last entry.
Construction and historical expectations
Some areas may have construction barriers, affecting views and movement. Jiujintang and Tusi City are a modern reconstructed complex in a traditional style, best approached as an architectural, cultural-display and photography visit rather than surviving original historic buildings.
Stairs, performances and spending
There are stairs throughout the complex, so wear comfortable shoes for either route. Clothing rental and the Tusi Chuanqi (《土司传奇》) stage show cost extra, while the timing of admission-included folk performances also changes by day. Check the activity and price before paying.
Food and leaving the attraction
Full meals inside the attraction are limited. Eat before entering or dine later around Tuqiaoba (土桥坝), where local choices include hezha, Tujia cured pork, flatbread and diaoguo fish. This route ends back at the south gate; if you are continuing to Daughter City in the evening, arrange a separate taxi or bus after leaving.
