How to Visit
1

Choose an easy route or a deeper route first

Dehang Canyon is not just one viewpoint. An easier visit can focus on Dehang Miao Village, the wind-rain bridge, and Liusha Waterfall. A deeper visit adds Tianwen Platform, Yuquanxi Canyon, and more walking trails.

Tip:Decide by energy level before you arrive.
2

Going from higher ground downhill saves energy

If transport allows, start from the upper entrance, see Tianwen Platform first, then walk down toward Dehang Miao Village.

Tip:This is usually easier than climbing up from the lower village side, and it gives you the wide canyon view early in the visit.
3

Judge Liusha Waterfall by season and weather

Liusha Waterfall is one of the canyon's signature sights, but the water flow depends heavily on season and recent rain. It is stronger in wet periods and lighter in dry periods.

Tip:After rain, the paths and steps can also be slippery, so slow down for both walking and photos.
4

Understand the scenic-area transport before you start

Dehang Canyon covers a large area. The entrances, Miao village, waterfall, Tianwen Platform, and return parking point may require walking, electric carts, or shuttle buses.

Tip:When buying tickets, ask clearly about transport tickets, boarding points, and last departures.
5

Do not rely on unofficial entry routes

Some travel notes mention village paths or side routes into the area, but first-time visitors should avoid relying on them. Road conditions, parking, ticket checks, and safety are uncertain.

Tip:Entering through the normal scenic-area route is more manageable, especially with older travelers or children.
Highlights
  • Dehang Canyon combines canyon scenery, waterfalls, Miao village culture, and mountain viewpoints in one route.
  • Liusha Waterfall is the most direct natural highlight, especially in wetter periods.
  • Tianwen Platform gives a higher canyon view, but it needs more transport and walking planning.
  • Dehang Miao Village adds village life and performances, so the route is not only about scenery.
  • It can be paired with Aizhai Bridge for a full-day route, but the day becomes much fuller.
Insider Tips

Ticket, shuttle, electric-cart, and combo-pass rules may change, so check whether your ticket includes Dehang Miao Village, Aizhai Bridge, or cliff-walk sections.

Wear non-slip shoes; the canyon is humid, and paths or stone steps can be slippery after rain.

Summer gives better waterfall and stream volume, but you still need sun protection, insect repellent, and a rain backup.

If your energy is limited, prioritize Dehang Miao Village plus Liusha Waterfall instead of forcing Tianwen Platform.

A same-day round trip from Fenghuang Ancient Town can feel rushed. Staying in Jishou or near Aizhai makes the route easier.
