Area scope and entrances
Mawei Shipbuilding Culture Scenic Area is around 83 Gangkou Road in Mawei District, Fuzhou. For navigation, search for “China Shipbuilding Culture Scenic Area” or “China Shipbuilding Culture Museum.” The area is broad and includes China Shipbuilding Culture Museum, Zhaozhong Shrine, Iron-Rib Factory, Engine Workshop, Huishi Hall, Shipbuilding Bookstore, Luoxing Pagoda Park and riverside areas.
The west gate is close to the museum and suits a route that starts indoors. The east gate is closer to Zhaozhong Shrine and some outdoor areas. Outdoor areas may remain usable after indoor venues close, but the museum is open Tuesday–Sunday 09:00–17:00 with last entry at 16:30 and closed on Mondays; outdoor access does not replace indoor opening hours.
Tickets and suggested visit length
Most public areas, the museum, Zhaozhong Shrine and Luoxing Pagoda Park are usually free. The Shipbuilding Office costs about CNY 30, while the *Remembering Shipbuilding* performance costs about CNY 258 for a standard seat or CNY 388 for a VIP seat; the performance also requires a ticket for a specific show time. Exhibitions, the tunnel, sightseeing vehicle, Luoxing Pagoda and the performance each have their own opening or ticket rules.
Allow 2–3 hours for a quick visit. First-time visitors who want the museum and the main industrial heritage sites should allow half a day; add a full day if you also want Maxian Mountain Park, sunset and a performance. The east and west entrances are far apart, so plan your luggage and return direction in advance.

The museum and shipbuilding history
China Shipbuilding Culture Museum is the best place to begin learning about the former shipyard, shipbuilding industry and historical figures. It is a separate page; this scenic-area page only places it within the wider route and does not repeat all of its collections and gallery details.
Factory buildings and shipbuilding heritage
The Iron-Rib Factory, Engine Workshop and Huishi Hall preserve different types of industrial buildings and design spaces, making them useful for industrial photography and historic architecture. Shipbuilding Bookstore is a convenient stop for a break and cultural products, but seating usually requires a purchase. These sites should not be treated as indoor museum galleries automatically included in the museum's free admission.
Zhaozhong Shrine, Luoxing Pagoda and the riverbank
Zhaozhong Shrine introduces the history associated with the Battle of the Min River, while Luoxing Pagoda Park is better for river views in the afternoon or near sunset. Outdoor heritage sites, the riverside path and the park can be scheduled after the indoor venues close, but the pagoda, performance and other separate venues still have their own entry times.
Build your day
A 2–3 hour quick route
Enter through the west gate, visit China Shipbuilding Culture Museum, then walk to the Engine Workshop and Huishi Hall before taking a short riverside walk and leaving. When time is limited, do not force in the Time-Space Tunnel, Luoxing Pagoda, Maxian Mountain Park and a performance, or you may miss the indoor venue's last entry.
If you need to leave from the east gate, confirm the walking distance between the two gates and decide how to handle your luggage in advance. The area is large, so even the short route calls for comfortable shoes.
A half-day first-visit route
Enter through the west gate and visit China Shipbuilding Culture Museum, Iron-Rib Factory, Shipbuilding Bookstore, Engine Workshop and Huishi Hall in sequence. Continue to Zhaozhong Shrine and Maxian Mountain Park, then finish near Luoxing Pagoda Park or the east gate. This divides the indoor history, industrial buildings, rest stops and river views into sections with different pacing.
Complete the museum before its 16:30 last entry. Whether Shipbuilding Bookstore, Iron-Rib Factory, Huishi Hall and Luoxing Pagoda Park can be fully visited depends on each site's opening boundary that day.
A full-day route with a performance
In the morning, visit the museum, Zhaozhong Shrine and Maxian Mountain Park. In the afternoon, walk through the Iron-Rib Factory, Huishi Hall, Engine Workshop and Shipbuilding Bookstore, then watch sunset at Luoxing Pagoda or by the river before choosing a *Remembering Shipbuilding* show.
Performances may be scheduled at 16:30, 19:30 or other times; confirm the day's programme. The 16:30 show is easier to combine with an evening river view, while the 19:30 show requires a later return. Do not present the showtime as a fixed daily programme, and do not skip the museum's last-entry time to catch it.
Get there
Public transport
From Gushan Station on Fuzhou Metro Line 2, change to Bus M17 or 37 for Shipbuilding Station, then walk about 10 minutes. The 7686 tourist line also runs directly from the Three Lanes and Seven Alleys area, which can work if you plan the city historic district and Mawei on the same day.
For a taxi, use the scenic area's west gate or China Shipbuilding Culture Museum. The west gate suits a museum-first route, while the east gate suits a Zhaozhong Shrine-first route. The two entrances belong to the same scenic area but are not interchangeable for route planning.
Driving and parking
For driving, use the P1 car park or west-gate car park; parking costs about CNY 5 for 3 hours. P1 is more convenient for a west-gate start, while the east gate is closer to Zhaozhong Shrine. Avoid parking far from the museum if possible, so you do not need to walk a long distance or pay for the tunnel again to retrieve the car.
Know before you go
Outdoor areas and indoor venues
Outdoor areas and the park may remain accessible after indoor venues close, but China Shipbuilding Culture Museum, Zhaozhong Shrine and the other indoor sites do not share one schedule. The museum is closed on Mondays and stops admitting visitors at 16:30; Luoxing Pagoda Park and the pagoda usually finish around 17:30 and also have their own entry boundary.
The Shipbuilding Office, Time-Space Tunnel, sightseeing vehicle, performances and individual indoor exhibitions may each have separate charges or access conditions. The Time-Space Tunnel costs about CNY 25 and the sightseeing vehicle about CNY 20; neither is required for the standard route.
Energy, luggage and guiding
The scenic area has many stone paths and outdoor sections, and a complete route may exceed 10,000 steps. Wear comfortable sports shoes and bring water. The museum front desk can store luggage free of charge, but the east and west gates are far apart, so large bags make backtracking harder.
The museum and scenic area may offer volunteer talks or other guiding services, but the arrangements change. If you want a guide, choose an available service on the day rather than assuming that a paid audio guide or free volunteer talk runs at every time.
Nearby plans
After the visit, continue to Maxian Mountain Park, Shipbuilding Old Street, Fisherman's Square or the Shipbuilding Night Market. Local Mawei food includes fish-ball soup, laohua rice noodles, ice rice and seafood. The night market and restaurants mainly operate in the evening, so if you rely on buses to return to central Fuzhou, confirm the finish time and the transport back before staying late.
