How to Visit
1

Plan Qingmuchuan as a far-west ancient-town trip

Qingmuchuan is at the western end of Ningqiang County, near the Shaanxi-Gansu-Sichuan border.

Tip:It is not a quick ancient-town stop near central Hanzhong. Plan it as a dedicated day trip or stay overnight, rather than squeezing it into the same day as city attractions.
2

Walk the old street before entering paid courtyards

The town streets are best enjoyed slowly. Start with Huilongchang Old Street for stone-paved lanes, wooden houses, and evening lights.

Tip:Then decide whether to buy tickets for Weishi Courtyard, Rongshengkui, Furen Middle School, Qujia Courtyard, and other core sites.
3

Spend real time at Weishi Courtyard

If time is limited, do not only take a few photos on the old street and leave.

Tip:Weishi Courtyard, Rongshengkui, and Furen Middle School connect Wei Futang, Republican-era trade, local education, and the town's layout, giving Qingmuchuan more substance than a standard commercial ancient town.
4

Plan transport before the visit

Qingmuchuan is far, and mountain roads or transfers take time.

Tip:If driving, enter and leave in daylight if possible. If using public transport, check Guangyuan, Ningqiang, and Qingmuchuan connections in advance instead of trying to find them after arrival.
5

Stay overnight if you want the best pace

Daytime is good for courtyards and the old street, while dusk and night bring more ancient-town atmosphere. Early morning is quieter.

Tip:A rushed visit weakens the experience; staying overnight suits travelers who want to slow down.
Highlights
  • Huilongchang Old Street is the best place to walk and see the town's old-street texture.
  • Weishi Courtyard shows Qingmuchuan's Republican-era history and local power stories.
  • Rongshengkui, Furen Middle School, and Qujia Courtyard give the town more historical layers than a simple shopping street.
  • Its location near the Shaanxi-Gansu-Sichuan border gives the trip a "three provinces meet" feeling.
  • Evening lights, stone lanes, and the mountain setting feel more atmospheric than a quick midday stop.
Insider Tips

The old street is usually free to enter, but key courtyards and exhibition sites require separate tickets or a combo ticket.

If you mainly want a fully undeveloped old town, keep expectations realistic; Qingmuchuan has commercial streets too.

Avoid driving mountain roads at night or in rain, and do not rush through sharp bends.

Wooden-bucket fish, walnut flatbread, cured meat, and rice noodles are worth trying, but you do not need to queue blindly at the busiest restaurants.

Do not climb on old buildings, step into tea-field areas casually, or enter private courtyards without permission.
