Start around the visitor center or East Gate
For a first visit, enter around the visitor center or East Gate area. Dailong Bridge, Immortal Ancient Well, Guo Family Ancestral Hall, Dragon Claw Banyan, and the stone-paved streets are the key points to link together.
Tip:These sights form the easiest first route through the old town.

Leave the main street
The town is not large, but there are many stone lanes, bridges, and riverside corners. Allow 3-4 hours. If you only stay on the main street, it can feel commercial.
Tip:Turning into smaller lanes and walking by the water gives a better experience.

Stay overnight if you want quieter hours
If you stay inside the town, dusk and early morning are the best times. With fewer day visitors, the river, old banyan trees, old houses, and local life feel more visible.
Tip:A night inside Huangyao is more rewarding than rushing in and out.

If you are not self-driving, check your return transport in advance. Huangyao is in Zhaoping County, not beside Hezhou city center.
Tip:Travel from Hezhou Station or downtown still requires a bus transfer, hired car, or taxi.
