The new museum
The new Inner Mongolia Museum is at No. 76 Xinhua East Street in Saihan District. Its galleries across four floors cover Inner Mongolia’s history, natural world, intangible cultural heritage, and spaceflight. Enter the full address in your navigation app to avoid being routed to the former site.
How much time to allow
A focused visit to the third-floor “融铸北疆” history exhibition and one themed gallery on the second floor takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. Allow 3 to 4 hours if you want to explore the historical displays in detail and visit several themed galleries. Crowds during holidays can extend your visit, so choose your priority galleries in advance.

The third-floor history exhibition
The third-floor exhibition “融铸北疆” (Rongzhu Beijiang), which covers the history of ancient Inner Mongolia, is arranged in Exhibition Halls 1 to 4. Follow the halls in order for an overview of the region’s history. Look for the Eagle-Topped Gold Crown Ornament; its gallery may change as displays are rearranged, so confirm its location on the gallery map or information screen when you arrive.
Themed galleries on the second floor
Second-floor themed galleries include “远古世界” (Ancient World), “文脉遗珍” (Cultural Treasures), “飞天神舟” (Shenzhou Spaceflight), “亮丽内蒙古” (Beautiful Inner Mongolia), and “故塞同风” (Frontier Cultures). Ancient World displays the Chagannuoer dinosaur skeleton (查干诺尔龙); Cultural Treasures presents Inner Mongolia’s national-level intangible cultural heritage; and Shenzhou Spaceflight introduces the region’s connection with China’s space program. Choose one or two galleries to explore in detail.
Digital experiences and temporary exhibitions on the first floor
The first-floor lobby has featured digital interactive screens and temporary exhibitions. Offerings change, so check the museum’s current notice before setting out; do not assume a past temporary exhibition is still on view.
Who will enjoy it
If you are interested in grassland history and ethnic cultures, spend most of your time on the third-floor history exhibition. Families and visitors interested in prehistoric life can prioritize the Chagannuoer dinosaur; those interested in intangible cultural heritage or spaceflight can choose a second-floor themed gallery.

Build your day
The 1.5- to 2-hour highlights route
After the entrance security check, consult the floor guide and take the elevator to the third floor. Follow Exhibition Halls 1 to 4 in “融铸北疆,” looking for highlights such as the Eagle-Topped Gold Crown Ornament. Then go to the second floor for Ancient World or the themed gallery that interests you most. Follow the guide back to the first-floor lobby and exit; if time is short, do not add another gallery at the last minute.
The 3- to 4-hour unhurried route
Start with the third-floor history exhibition and visit Halls 1 to 4 in order, then choose two or three themed galleries on the second floor. If a temporary exhibition is on view that day and interests you, leave time for it after the themed galleries. Take a break and get water in a rest area, and leave time to return to the first floor, gather your belongings, and exit.
Visiting with others
If you need a wheelchair, stroller, or bag storage, ask the service desk what is available that day. Services depend on on-site arrangements.
