Location and access boundary
Sword Pond is a summit attraction inside Moganshan Scenic Area, with streams, waterfalls and stepped mountain paths. Visitors usually transfer from Yucun Tourist Transfer Centre and get off at a stop near Sword Pond before walking in.
The main visit takes about 2–3 hours. Combining it with Luhua Dang, Xuguang Terrace or Wuling Village requires half a day to a full day. Sword Pond must be planned within the summit ticket, shuttle and last-departure arrangements for Moganshan.
Tickets and transport
Sword Pond is usually covered by the Moganshan scenic-area ticket and shuttle arrangement, but the ticket type, transfer route and last descent may change. Prices and transport arrangements can be adjusted with operations, so confirm that day's mountain transport and attraction scope before buying.
The outdoor path at Sword Pond follows a different rhythm from indoor or other summit points. Rain, fog, waterfall volume and slippery steps affect the route. Do not estimate the difficulty only from photographs taken on a clear day.

Streams, waterfalls and the sword-forging legend
The main experience is following the stream and steps to observe waterfalls, pools, rocks and surrounding bamboo. The legend and traces associated with the sword-making of Gan Jiang and Mo Ye add a historical thread, while water volume and route access change with the weather.
It suits visitors who enjoy forest walks, waterfalls and local legends. When the flow is low, rock walls, bamboo and the stream path remain worth seeing; when the flow is high, spray and slippery surfaces increase the safety burden.
Who this suits
Sword Pond suits visitors with reasonable walking ability who are willing to use stone steps. With children or older adults, stop at the main waterfall viewpoints first and decide whether to continue uphill based on energy.
Visitors unwilling to use steps or wearing shoes unsuitable for wet mountain paths should choose another, gentler summit point. Sword Pond cannot be completed as a flat stop with a single photograph at the entrance.
Build your day
About 2–3 hours: Sword Pond and Luhua Dang
After transferring up from the centre, get off near Sword Pond and follow the stone steps and stream path to the main waterfalls, then return to the stop along the open route. With enough time, continue to Luhua Dang or another gentler summit area before waiting at a clear stop for the descent.
The steps go both up and down, so calculate the return energy as well as the ascent. After rain or when water flow is high, turn back at a safe viewpoint rather than entering a slippery area to reach the end of the route.
Half-day summit combination
Visitors with good fitness can start with Sword Pond in the morning, take a vehicle to Xuguang Terrace or Wuling Village, then decide in the afternoon whether to add another attraction based on the last vehicle and remaining time. Return to a vehicle-accessible point after every stop; do not connect them freely along mountain paths.
If the shuttle queue is long, keep Sword Pond and one summit viewpoint or building as priorities. The summit attractions are spread out, and dropping one stop is safer than missing the descent.
Arrangement for hikers
The Chiang Kai-shek Ancient Trail and other mountain routes may connect several areas, but unmarked paths, elevation gain, weather and opening boundaries need separate assessment. Without adequate equipment and route experience, use the marked Sword Pond path and do not follow strangers onto an unmarked route.
Get there
Transfer at the tourist centre
From Deqing Station, take the Y1 tourist line or a taxi to Moganshan Tourist Transfer Centre, then transfer to scenic transport according to the day's arrangement. Whether private cars can go up during the day depends on traffic controls, accommodation registration and the time slot; do not drive directly to the Sword Pond entrance.
After parking at the centre, note the return stop and last departure. The drop-off point near Sword Pond is still a walk from the path entrance, so arrange luggage storage or reduce what you carry.
The Sword Pond path
Scenic vehicles cover only part of the mountain transfer. Inside Sword Pond, movement is mainly by paths and steps. Follow the signs after getting off and return to the stop along the public route; do not cross barriers or take an unclear side path.
Know before you go
Wet steps and waterfall flow
There is often spray and wet stone near Sword Pond. Wear shoes with good grip and slow down in rain and after rain. When the flow is strong, do not approach deep pools, cross railings or stand in the falling-water area.
Do not stand in the stream, step on slippery rocks or enter a closed path for a photograph. Children and slower-moving companions should be accompanied by an adult.
Shuttle and return
Transport at Sword Pond follows Moganshan's last shuttle. Confirm the return stop and time before entering the path, and return early if there is a queue, worsening weather or reduced energy.
If you miss the shuttle, do not walk down the winding road or take an unknown vehicle. Contact the scenic area or follow the on-site return arrangement.
Supplies and nearby stops
Food and supplies near the mountain are limited, so bring water and a light snack. If you continue to Xuguang Terrace, Wuling Village or Yucun after Sword Pond, calculate drop-off, walking, waiting and return time separately.
