Plan at a glance
Location and access
Xuguang Terrace is in the Mantoushan area of Moganshan Scenic Area's summit. Visitors usually get off near Qingliang Pavilion and then walk and climb a short flight of steps. First go to Moganshan Tourist Transfer Centre and transfer; do not navigate to the viewpoint as if it were a foothill street attraction.
The terrace itself suits about 1 hour. Linking it with Wuling Village or Sword Pond requires about 3–4 hours. Tickets, scenic shuttles, private-car access and early-morning or evening opening are all affected separately by scenic-area controls.
Views and opening hours
The view depends on fog, clouds, wind, trees and the season. Sunrise, sunset, a sea of clouds and red maples cannot be guaranteed. For an early or late visit, confirm whether entry is permitted, whether shuttles are running and how you will return.
For daytime planning, allow roughly 7:30–17:00. Traffic controls and the last descent may affect the actual schedule earlier. There are short steps and slopes near the terrace, so wear shoes with good grip and leave time for both directions.

Mountain and bamboo views
Xuguang Terrace suits visitors who want to look over Moganshan's bamboo, mountains and buildings from above. Qingliang Pavilion, the stone viewpoint and nearby forest paths offer different angles. The main experience is observing the view from public areas.
On a clear day, ridges and bamboo layers are easier to see; in fog, only nearby trees may be visible. When visibility is poor, you can still take a short walk around Qingliang Pavilion and nearby paths without waiting too long for a distant view.
Who this suits
Photographers, light hikers and visitors interested in mountain architecture are a good fit. Reaching the terrace requires steps. Visitors with limited mobility, large luggage or no wish to climb can choose a gentler place to stop near Qingliang Pavilion.
Xuguang Terrace works best as one viewpoint in a Moganshan summit route, not as a full-day stop waiting for sunrise or sunset. If the weather or shuttle changes, shorten the wait and use another open attraction.
Build your day
About 1 hour: Qingliang Pavilion and the terrace
Take a scenic shuttle to the area near Qingliang Pavilion, follow the public path and steps to Xuguang Terrace, stop at the viewpoint and return to the boarding point along the same route. Leave time for both the ascent and descent, and do not block steps or passages near the terrace.
For an early or late visit, confirm the vehicle and ticket arrangement in advance. If the distant view is unavailable, shorten the stop rather than searching for a higher position in wind, rain or low visibility.
Half-day summit route
After transferring from Yinshan Street or the centre, visit Xuguang Terrace first, then choose one or two of Wuling Village, Sword Pond and Baiyun Mountain Pavilion. At each stop, confirm the next departure and stop so time at Xuguang Terrace does not affect the descent.
The summit points are not always suitable for walking directly between. A short map distance may include slopes and vehicle restrictions. Moving by the day's shuttle route is safer than looking for a shortcut along the mountain road.
Sunrise or sunset plan
For sunrise or sunset, confirm whether the scenic area permits entry at that time, whether private cars are restricted, whether shuttles run and how you will leave. The summit is windy and temperatures vary, so bring a jacket, a torch or phone light and water.
Natural light, sea of clouds and red maples depend on weather and season and cannot be guaranteed at a particular time. Treat the terrace as a mountain-view visit rather than travelling only to wait for one scene.
Get there
Transfer at the centre
From Deqing Station, take the Y1 tourist line or a taxi to Moganshan Tourist Transfer Centre, then take the scenic loop bus to Xuguang Terrace or Qingliang Pavilion. Whether private cars can go up at a certain time depends on that day's traffic controls and accommodation registration.
You still need to walk and climb steps after getting off. With large luggage, do not put Xuguang Terrace at the end of a route that crosses several mountain areas. Note the return stop and last vehicle.
Walking route
From the Yinshan Street transfer centre, the open walking route to the Qingliang Pavilion area takes about 20–30 minutes, depending on weather, ground conditions and what is currently open. Before choosing to walk, confirm whether slopes or traffic controls affect the route; do not force a long walk in rain or fog.
Know before you go
Views and weather
Fog, wind, rain and trees affect distant views, and the timing of sunrise, sunset, sea of clouds and red maples cannot be guaranteed. When wind is strong near the terrace, keep away from edges and railings, and do not climb onto closed rocks or slopes for a photograph.
Temperatures are lower in the early morning and late afternoon, so bring a light jacket. Steps and stone surfaces are slippery after rain; wear shoes with good grip and shorten the stop.
Transport and the return
The last scenic vehicle may be earlier than expected, especially in the early morning, late afternoon or changing weather. Confirm the return vehicle before entering the viewpoint. If you miss it, contact the scenic area rather than walking a long distance down the winding road.
Tickets, shuttles, parking and time-specific arrangements must be confirmed separately. The entrance to Xuguang Terrace is not the same as the Yucun district or the other summit attractions.
