A separate evening boat product
The Ting River Night Cruise is an evening boat service along the Ting River in Changting Ancient City. The usual boarding point is Huiji Gate Pier. It is a different product from Diantou Street, the old city wall, Wolong Academy, and Hakka Eight Happiness Building, so a daytime attraction ticket or an old-city combination ticket cannot be used directly for the boat.
The boats usually start in the evening, and the trip lasts about 35 minutes. Whether the service runs, and what route and stops are used, depends on water level, weather, visitor numbers, and operational arrangements.
Ticket and hours
A full-price ticket is about CNY 80 per person, while online platforms commonly sell it for about CNY 69-76. Students and active service members can buy a ticket of about half price at the pier window with documents. Children under 1.2 metres are usually free. Separate Ting River bamboo-raft products are also sold, at about CNY 29.9 for one person and CNY 49.9 for two.
The reference operating window is 18:00-22:00. Boarding around 19:00 usually works well with the wall lighting, but a particular evening light cannot be guaranteed, and 22:00 should not be treated as a final departure that applies in all weather.

About 35 minutes from the river
The cruise is mainly a way to see the old city wall, Jichuan Gate, and riverside buildings from the Ting River. The boat's direction, seating, and bank lighting affect the view. It suits visitors who want a shorter way to see Changting's night scene from another angle.
Do not treat the boat as a sightseeing ticket covering Diantou Street, the academy, and Hakka Eight Happiness Building. After leaving the boat, you still follow public access rules if you continue through the streets or along the wall.
Boat only, or boat plus an evening route
With limited time, board at Huiji Gate Pier, then eat around Shuidong Street after landing. For a fuller evening, walk Diantou Street at dusk, reach Jichuan Gate around 18:30 for the lighting, and return to the pier for a boat around 19:00.
If you add daytime sights before or after the boat, check the daytime paid venues and evening boat ticket separately. Being near the old city does not mean every product is open that evening.

The cruise suits visitors who want to see the Ting River, city wall, and old-city outline at night. It also suits families and people who enjoy a slow city night view. Watch children closely; they must remain supervised while boarding, leaving the boat, queueing at the pier, and walking by the river.

An approximately 1-hour boat route
Queue and board at Huiji Gate Pier, complete the roughly 35-minute Ting River night cruise, and spend some time near Shuidong Street after landing before returning to your accommodation or car. With a tight schedule, the evening can contain only the pier, boat, and return.
The pier queue can be very long on holidays. Confirm your boat ticket, identity documents, and queue position in advance, and do not arrive at the pier just before departure.
An approximately 3-hour dusk and evening route
Walk Diantou Street in the early evening, go to Jichuan Gate around 18:30 for the lighting, and return to Huiji Gate Pier around 19:00. After the boat, walk a section of the Tingzhou city wall, then eat near Shuidong Street.
If climbing Jichuan Gate needs a separate ticket, the cost is about CNY 30. The public wall path and the gate climb are not the same product. If the queue is long or the weather is unsuitable, shorten the wall section rather than forcing it before the boat.
Weather and queue fallback
Before setting out, check the day's wind, rain, water level, and operating notice. If the cruise is suspended, use the public evening route along the wall or Diantou Street instead, and do not look for an unofficial boat by the river to make up for it.
If staff divide groups or there is a long queue, wait according to their arrangement. With older adults or children, let them rest in a safe waiting area instead of crowding the pier edge.
Get there
High-speed rail and taxi to the pier
From Changting South Station, a taxi takes about 15-20 minutes and costs about CNY 15. In the old city, walk or use a shared e-bike to Huiji Gate Pier, choosing the drop-off point according to that day's traffic control.
Some old-city roads may be restricted at night, so do not assume a car can stop at the pier door. Allow walking time from the drop-off point to the pier.
Driving and movement inside the old city
Drivers should park in an outer old-city car park, then walk or ride a shared e-bike into the core. Sanyuan Pavilion to Taiping Corridor Bridge is about a 5-minute walk, but holiday evening crowds can change the actual time.
The cruise finishes at night, and shared e-bikes may not have a suitable parking spot or operating area nearby. For the return, prefer familiar main streets and public riverside paths.
Know before you go
Ticket and product boundaries
The Ting River cruise, bamboo rafts, old-city paid venues, and gate-tower climb are different ticket products. Online discounts, half-price identity checks, and child free entry follow that day's rules. An old-city combination ticket cannot replace a boat ticket, and a daytime attraction ticket cannot be used for the boat.
Frequent sailings do not mean every time slot can board. Booking ahead is sensible on holidays, but you must still verify and queue at the pier. A reserved time is not an absolute departure time.
Riverside and water safety
Board and leave the boat according to staff instructions. Wait until the boat is stable before moving, and do not reach your body, camera, or phone beyond the railing. An adult should hold a child's hand throughout, and children should not run on the pier, steps, or riverbank.
The evening wind by the river can be cool, so bring a light jacket. In strong wind, heavy rain, rising water, or poor visibility, follow the on-site suspension decision. Do not ask the boat to depart merely because you already bought a ticket.
Lighting displays and photography
The route may pass old-city wall lighting and some waterside display areas. Whether a water screen, light show, or other content runs depends on the schedule that evening and should not be described as a daily fixed show.
For night photographs, find a stable position first and do not block passages with a tripod. Handheld shots from a moving boat can blur easily; photographing the buildings clearly is more practical than chasing one particular reflection.
