Ticket, incense and hours
Admission to Jiming Temple is about CNY 10 and includes three sticks of incense, usually collected at the top with the ticket. The usual hours are 07:00–17:30, with final entry at 17:15; on the first and fifteenth days of the lunar month, opening may move earlier to 05:30.
The South Gate sells a commemorative paper ticket, while the electronic-ticket entrance is closer to the temple buildings and uses a code for entry. Buy through the Nanchaoshou Temple Jiming Temple account or buy on site.
Visit time and repairs
The one-way core route takes about 40–60 minutes. With a slower temple visit and the Taicheng section of Nanjing City Wall, allow 1.5–2 hours. The site is on a slope, with steps and one-way movement.
As of August 2026, parts of the hilltop area, including Guanyin Hall, the Bronze Buddha Hall and Prajna Hall, are behind repair barriers. The open route and views may change, and the repair completion date is not confirmed; follow the barriers and staff directions.

Medicine Buddha Pagoda and the main halls
The Medicine Buddha Pagoda is the easiest landmark to recognise. Pilu Hall and Guanyin Hall lie along the one-way route. Visitors interested in Buddhist architecture and Nanjing’s temple history can follow the sequence of halls, pagoda and courtyards without spending too long at the entrance.
Some areas are under repair, so the accessible route may differ from earlier plans. If you want photos of the yellow walls, Medicine Buddha Pagoda or the Xuanwu Lake view, confirm the open positions before choosing where to stop.
Combining the wall and Xuanwu Lake
After leaving through the North Gate, walk directly to the Taicheng section of Nanjing City Wall, then continue towards Xuanwu Lake. The temple, wall and lake form a half-day city route combining prayer, historic buildings and skyline views.
If you only want a quiet temple visit, keep the South-to-North route to 40–60 minutes. On holidays, reducing the number of linked attractions makes the visit easier to manage.
Build your day
A 40–60 minute core route
Enter through the South Gate, collect the incense near the Hall of Heavenly Kings, then follow the one-way route through Pilu Hall, the Medicine Buddha Pagoda and Guanyin Hall before leaving through the North Gate. The route limits backtracking and suits a short visit.
There are steps and slopes between the halls, so keep a comfortable pace. If repairs close part of the route, follow the current on-site sequence rather than trying to reach a blocked area.
A 1.5–2 hour temple-and-wall route
After completing the temple route, leave through the North Gate and continue to the neighbouring Taicheng section of Nanjing City Wall for views over Jiming Temple and Xuanwu Lake. Descend towards Jiefang Gate if you want to continue into the lake park.
This works well as a half-day city walk in the morning or afternoon. The wall and lake each have their own ticket and opening rules, so confirm the next entrance and remaining time after leaving the temple.
Get there
Jiming Temple Station
Take Metro Line 3 or 4 to Jiming Temple Station. Exit 5 is about a 3–5 minute walk from the main gate but is usually busier; Exit 6 has an escalator and a quieter walking approach.
Bus routes 304, 11, 20 and 48 also stop at Jiming Temple. Parking around the temple is extremely difficult, so public transport is the practical choice on holidays.
Entrances and the next stop
The paper-ticket entrance and electronic-ticket entrance are in different positions. Confirm the ticketing method and entry direction after arrival. The North Gate connects naturally to the Taicheng wall, Jiefang Gate and Xuanwu Lake.
With older relatives, enter directly from the metro station, complete the one-way temple route and then decide whether to continue to the wall. Put the temple and wall steps in the first half of the day when possible.
Know before you go
Temple etiquette
The temple provides free incense, so there is no need to buy expensive incense outside or through a third party. Wear respectful clothing and avoid short skirts, shorts, sleeveless tops and slippers; do not take photos inside halls or step on thresholds.
Arriving before 07:30 or after 16:00 is usually quieter, but afternoon visitors must still allow for the 17:15 final entry. Opening may be earlier on the first and fifteenth days of the lunar month, subject to the day’s arrangement.
Repairs, supplies and food
As of August 2026, barriers cover parts of the hilltop buildings and route. Do not cross barriers or stop in construction areas; the accessible halls and photo positions may change as the work progresses.
There is a vegetarian noodle shop near the temple exit, and Jiming soup dumplings and Liu Changxing are nearby. Eat after the visit and allow time to walk from the North Gate to the wall or Xuanwu Lake.
