The purpose of the visit and time
This is a memorial and historical education site. The visit centres on the Nanjing Massacre History exhibition, memorial grounds and related exhibitions. Admission is free, but real-name reservation is required; the three exhibition areas are reserved separately: the Nanjing Massacre History exhibition, the “Three Victories” exhibition and the Liji Lane Comfort Station Former Site Exhibition Hall.
The main visit takes about 2–3 hours. It usually opens Tuesday–Sunday from 08:30–17:30, with final entry at 16:30; Mondays are closed, subject to public-holiday arrangements.
Entrances and reservations
Gate 1 is the entrance for the Nanjing Massacre History exhibition, while Gate 7 is near the “Three Victories” exhibition. Take Metro Line 2 to Yunjinlu Station, Exit 2, and walk about 5 minutes to Gate 1.
Reservations usually open seven days ahead, with 08:00 and 17:00 often used as release times. Enter all visitors’ identity information in advance and confirm the reservation and entry arrangement for each exhibition separately.

History exhibition and memorial sites
From Gate 1, follow the Sculpture Square, Public Memorial Square, Nanjing Massacre History exhibition, Mass Grave Site and Peace Park. The historical displays and memorial sites require quiet reading and time to absorb the material, so reserve a complete morning or afternoon.
The remains pit and Mass Grave Site are important parts of the visit, and the experience can be emotionally heavy. Follow the museum route, remain solemn and allow time for reading and reflection.
“Three Victories” and the other exhibition
The “Three Victories” exhibition has a separate entrance and reservation, and can follow the History exhibition if the time slot fits. The Liji Lane Comfort Station Former Site Exhibition Hall also requires a separate reservation, so confirm the exhibition areas and entry times before travelling.
A white chrysanthemum is usually available near the entrance for visitors who wish to express remembrance. The choice is personal; keep the focus on the exhibitions and the memorial setting, without entertainment-style photography or commercial interactions.
Build your day
A 2–3 hour main route
Enter through Gate 1, pass the Sculpture Square and Public Memorial Square, then visit the Nanjing Massacre History exhibition, the Mass Grave Site and Peace Park. If you also reserved the “Three Victories” exhibition, walk towards the area near Gate 7 for the second section.
The route is based on walking and reading, so leave time between the exhibition rooms, memorial sites and park. When queues or crowds form, follow staff directions and do not stop to photograph at an exhibition entrance.
Scheduling the three exhibition areas
The three exhibition areas have separate reservations and should also be planned as separate entry windows. Complete the History exhibition first, then go to the “Three Victories” exhibition or the Liji Lane site according to the reserved time; do not shorten the memorial visit just to catch the next slot.
If group members have different levels of comfort with the subject, agree on a meeting point and break beforehand. Plan food and rest outside the memorial grounds, and keep conversations and movement quiet inside.
Get there
Metro to Gate 1
Yunjinlu Station on Metro Line 2, Exit 2, is about a 5-minute walk from Gate 1 and is the most direct public-transport option. Several bus routes stop at Jiangdongmen Memorial Hall; follow the entrance number for the exhibition you reserved.
Driving and entrance numbers
You can navigate to the underground car park for the “Three Victories” exhibition, but spaces may be limited. Public transport is easier for arriving at a reserved time; if you park, allow extra time to walk from the car to the correct gate.
Know before you go
Clothing and conduct
Wear modest, respectful clothing. Avoid slippers, high heels, shorts, short skirts and very bright colours. Keep quiet throughout the visit and do not joke, play or run; explain the nature of the site to children in advance.
Photography is prohibited in some exhibition rooms and memorial areas, especially around the Mass Grave Site. Follow the posted rules, do not use flash or selfie sticks and do not let photography interfere with other visitors’ reading.
Food after the visit
Restaurants are concentrated around Jianye Wanda and Wuyue Plaza near the memorial. Choose a simple meal, Sichuan food or Cantonese food after leaving the memorial grounds, once the visit is complete.
Use the time after the visit for a quiet walk or a pause if you need one before continuing. The memorial itself should remain focused on remembrance rather than shopping or entertainment.
