Plan at a glance
What the area includes
Xikou Scenic Area covers the historic town of Xikou and the mountain landscapes towards Fenghua. The Former Residence of Chiang Kai-shek, Xuedou Mountain and Xuedou Temple represent different types of visit: town heritage, mountain trails and a temple. One entry arrangement does not cover the whole area.
Tickets and timing
The Former Residence and Xuedou Mountain have separate tickets and entry scopes. Use this page to choose a practical combination, but do not make a combined ticket the starting assumption for every itinerary. The Former Residence usually operates from 8:00–17:30 in summer and Xuedou Mountain from 8:00–17:00; their last-entry rules, sightseeing transport and ticket products should be handled separately.
How many days to allow
Allow about 2–3 hours if you choose the town residences as your main stop, and at least half a day for Xuedou Mountain. Two days give you more time to combine the town and mountain areas. If you try to do both in one day, reduce the number of stops and leave extra time for mountain roads, sightseeing transport and transfers.

Town heritage
The historic-town visit centres on Wuling Gate, Wuling School, Wenchang Pavilion, the Small Western-style House, Fenghao House and Yutai Salt Shop. It suits visitors interested in early modern architecture, historic residences and the setting of Xikou. Street walking and indoor visits have different pacing, so choose stops according to what is open that day.
Mountain and temple choices
Xuedou Mountain is the choice for SanYinTan, Qianzhang Rock and Miaogao Platform. Xuedou Temple is a separate temple visit. Both can fit into a Xikou trip, but the mountain trails, temple grounds and ticket scopes must be planned independently.
How to choose
If this is your first visit and time is limited, choose either the town residences or Xuedou Mountain. Prioritise the Former Residence if you prefer historic buildings. Add Xuedou Mountain only if your group is comfortable with steps, mountain roads and longer walks; with older travellers or children, shorten the mountain route according to weather, transport and energy.
Build your day
A simplified one-day combination
You can visit the main mountain sights in the morning and return to Xikou town for the Former Residence in the afternoon. The order can also be reversed, with the mountain visit decided after you assess the road and return time. Xuedou Mountain covers long distances, so do not estimate the afternoon arrival as if this were a city walking route.
A two-day split
On day one, focus on Wuling Gate, Wenchang Pavilion, the Small Western-style House, Fenghao House and Yutai Salt Shop, then stay in Xikou or leave after the town visit. On day two, enter Xuedou Mountain and choose between SanYinTan, Qianzhang Rock, Miaogao Platform and Xuedou Temple according to the areas open that day. Temple time needs to be counted separately.
An outdoor walking option
The walking route from Sanshi Village through the bamboo path to Yantou Ancient Village is about 6 km, with around 120 m of elevation gain. It suits visitors with some walking experience and stable weather. This is a separate starting point and route from the town residences and Xuedou Mountain, so confirm the start, return plan and your group’s energy before setting out.
Get there
Driving and high-speed rail
By car, use separate navigation targets for the Xikou town heritage area and the Xuedou Mountain Visitor Centre. By high-speed rail, you can arrive at Fenghua Station and transfer to Xikou. Xikou Station is closer to the scenic area but has fewer train choices; after arrival, you still need transport to the specific attraction.
Moving between town and mountain
The Xikou town area is suitable for walking between the historic sites. Xuedou Mountain requires movement according to its roads, sightseeing transport and mountain paths. Count the walking and transfer time between the visitor centre, Xikou town and Xuedou Temple separately, and confirm the return plan at each transfer.
Return timing
Last entry, the last sightseeing vehicle and changing mountain weather can all affect your descent. If you must catch a train or long-distance connection, fix the return time first, then decide whether to add the farther mountain areas such as SanYinTan or Xufuyan.
Know before you go
Combined and separate tickets
The Former Residence, Xuedou Mountain and Xuedou Temple have different visit scopes. Check which attractions, sightseeing transport and validity period a ticket covers before buying. Combined products, discounts and two-day arrangements may change with the sales channel and on-site management; a particular combination ticket should not be treated as a long-term planning assumption.
Mountain roads, weather and walking
Xuedou Mountain has winding roads, steps and surfaces that become slippery in wet weather. Wear shoes with good grip and leave time for sightseeing-vehicle queues and mountain stops. The cableway, train, shuttle and individual paths may not all be available, so follow the same-day arrangement and keep an alternative route.
Different conditions in the town sites
The residences, displays and repair areas within the Former Residence may have different access conditions. Wuling Road and the public streets of Xikou are separate from the ticketed attractions. Follow on-site signs and do not enter closed or repaired areas.
