Plan at a glance

Ticket, hours and scope

Xuedou Mountain is the mountain scenic area near Xikou in Fenghua. It includes natural sites such as SanYinTan, Qianzhang Rock and Miaogao Platform. Xuedou Temple lies within the same mountain area but has its own temple entry conditions. The reference mountain ticket is CNY 150, and the sightseeing vehicle reference price is CNY 30. Usual hours are 8:00–17:00; the last sightseeing vehicle is often around 16:30, so leave time to descend.

How long to allow

The easier route takes about 4–5 hours and suits first-time visitors who choose the main sights. Combining the SanYinTan walk with Qianzhang Rock, Miaogao Platform and Xuedou Temple takes about 6–7 hours. Add more time if you include Xufuyan or another outdoor activity; this is not a half-day route.

What kind of visit this is

Choose Xuedou Mountain if your group is comfortable with winding roads, sightseeing vehicles, steps and sustained walking. If energy is limited, focus on the more concentrated Qianzhang Rock and Miaogao Platform area. If the weather is unstable or you must return the same day, reduce the farther sections.

Choose your visit

SanYinTan and the forest paths

SanYinTan includes several pools and waterfalls connected by forest paths. The shade can make the walk cooler, but steps and slopes still take energy. Trail conditions, rainfall and same-day access affect what you can see, so wear shoes with good grip and decide how far to go according to your group.

Qianzhang Rock and Miaogao Platform

Qianzhang Rock has a drop of about 186 metres and is one of the mountain’s main waterfall viewpoints. Miaogao Platform sits higher on the mountain and looks towards Tingxia Lake and the surrounding hills. Water flow, visibility and the view depend on the weather; the exact scene will vary by day.

Xuedou Temple and the mountain heritage sites

Xuedou Temple and Zhang Xueliang’s First Detention Site can be added as the human-history section of a mountain day, but Xuedou Temple has its own ticket and temple management. Visitors focused on scenery can keep the temple stop short; visitors who want both nature and history should include the temple entrance and mountain transfer time.

Build your day

The 4–5-hour easier route

From the Visitor Centre, use the sightseeing-vehicle arrangement available that day to reach Xuedou Temple or Zhang Xueliang’s First Detention Site, then continue to Qianzhang Rock and Miaogao Platform before returning to the Visitor Centre. The cableway, walking descent and other transfers may not all be available. Keep an alternative transport plan.

The 6–7-hour SanYinTan route

Take the sightseeing vehicle to SanYinTan, walk through the Upper and Middle Pools, then follow the available route back before continuing to Qianzhang Rock, Miaogao Platform and Xuedou Temple. Do not rely on the Happiness Train as transport when planning SanYinTan; calculate the return as a walk if needed. If the route changes that day, follow the on-site instructions.

Adding Xufuyan

Xufuyan is farther from the main mountain sights. If you add its glass walkway or Via Ferrata-style activity, reserve separate time and energy for the return. Outdoor activities, mountain roads and weather conditions need separate planning; they are not part of the 4–5-hour easier route.

Get there

Visitor Centre and public transport

By car, use Xuedou Mountain Visitor Centre as the main navigation target. From Fenghua Station, continue towards Xikou and then use the day’s bus or taxi arrangement to enter the scenic area. From Ningbo Station, bus 988 can take you to the Xuedou Mountain Visitor Centre, where you then follow the scenic-area transport plan.

Mountain roads and sightseeing vehicles

The roads are winding and the sights are far apart, so sightseeing vehicles are a common way to move within the mountain area. Parking, vehicle intervals, the cableway and other facilities may change. Confirm your return point after arrival, then decide how far to walk.

Return planning

Last entry, the last sightseeing vehicle and the time needed on the mountain roads all affect the descent. If you must return to Xikou, catch a train or connect with the Former Residence, complete the farther sights first and then move back towards the Visitor Centre.

Know before you go

Steps, wet surfaces and motion sickness

SanYinTan, Qianzhang Rock and Miaogao Platform all include steps or slopes, and stone surfaces become more slippery in rain. The mountain road has many bends. If you get motion sickness, prepare medication in advance and leave extra time for both riding and walking.

Tickets and temporary facilities

The mountain ticket, sightseeing vehicle, cableway, train and Xuedou Temple ticket belong to different arrangements. Check what is included before buying. Temporary discounts, repairs and special events are not standard planning assumptions; give up a route promptly if it is closed or changed on site.

Sun protection and supplies

Supplies are not continuous along the mountain paths, so carry water and simple food. Protect yourself from the summer sun and insects, and bring a waterproof layer for rain. Do not enter closed, repaired or unopened areas.
