Location, entrance, and tickets
Jiuli Lake Scenic Area is in Zhongshan Town, Xianyou County, Putian, Fujian. The usual entrance is the scenic-area visitor centre and ticket office. The adult ticket is CNY 50; students and visitors aged 60-64 pay CNY 25; visitors aged 65 or older and children under 1.2 metres enter free. Online products may have different prices and conditions, so confirm the ticket type when booking.
The area usually opens from 8:00 to 17:30, with entry stopping at 16:00. The sightseeing bus's last service is about 17:00. Hiking, waterfalls, the sightseeing bus, and return transport do not share one time limit; do not treat the closing time as proof that you still have plenty of time to walk uphill.
Time and physical effort
A light visit takes about 2 hours. A complete visit along the main waterfalls and paths usually takes 3-4 hours. The route includes steps, slippery stone paving, and mountain walking. After rain or during the high-water season, spray and moisture are heavier, so visitors with average fitness should keep the option of returning the way they came or going down early.
Jiuli Lake is in Xianyou County, not on Meizhou Island, and it does not use Meizhou's Wenjia Pier ferry or island buses. Arrange it separately as a mainland Putian mountain destination.

The Jiujie waterfall group
The main natural feature is the Jiujie waterfall group, with a total drop of about 432 metres. Waterfalls such as Zhuliangji and Yuzhuji are distributed along the route. Water volume changes with season and rainfall, so no guide can guarantee that every waterfall will be full, or that you will see a rainbow, a complete curtain of water, or a fixed view.
Viewpoints and paths offer different distances from the falls. Areas near flowing water can be slippery. Stay on open platforms and behind railings, and do not enter pools, the base of a waterfall, or closed stone steps.
Dream-prayer culture and cliff inscriptions
Jiuxian Temple and its dream-prayer culture are the main human-interest elements. Tongxian Bridge, the glacial pothole group, and historic cliff inscriptions connect the natural geology with the local sightseeing route. Read the interpretation signs and do not touch or make rubbings of the inscriptions.
These cultural points can be combined with the waterfall route, but do not leave the path to seek a legendary experience. Dream prayers, religious activities, and personal beliefs are optional parts of a visit; no result or special arrangement can be promised.
Who this suits
This area suits visitors who enjoy waterfalls, gorges, cliff inscriptions, and light hiking. With older adults or children, prioritise Tongxian Bridge, Jiuxian Temple, and nearby viewpoints, then decide whether to continue according to the steps, slippery ground, and return shuttle.
Build your day
About 2 hours: light route
Enter at the visitor centre, pass Tongxian Bridge and Jiuxian Temple, continue to the nearer open waterfall viewpoints, then return by the same route and take the sightseeing bus down. This suits a tight schedule or companions who should avoid a long uphill walk.
Do not enter a closed gate, informal path, or area below a waterfall just to extend the route. Confirm the sightseeing-bus boarding point and last service before returning; do not walk deep into the area and only then look for a way down.
About 3-4 hours: full open route
When fitness and weather are suitable, follow the open order of Tongxian Bridge, Jiuxian Temple, cliff inscriptions, Leihongji, Zhuliangji, Yuzhuji, the suspension bridge, and Bagua Platform, then take the sightseeing bus back according to the day's arrangement. The actual route must follow open paths, closure notices, and staff directions.
Stone paving in the waterfall area may stay damp and mossy. Wear shoes with good grip and slow down on steps. If rain strengthens, the ground becomes slippery, your energy drops, or the shuttle time is running short, return from the nearest safe point.
Do not plan a cross-scenic-area shortcut
Jiuli Lake and Jiulong Valley are two independent scenic areas with separate tickets and entrances. There is no official walking connection that visitors can use directly between them. If you visit both on the same day, go to each entrance separately and arrange separate return transport; do not treat them as one continuous route. Never climb over gates, use an unconfirmed wild path, or pass through a closed section to enter the other area.
If you want to compare both areas on one trip, buy the tickets separately, confirm each entrance and return transport, and allow enough time for a full mountain day. The more reliable choice is one area, or a complete day allocated to each.
Get there
Driving
Navigate to “Jiuli Lake Scenic Area Ticket Office.” Driving from Putian city takes about 1.5 hours. In the off-season, it may be possible to park near the entrance; in the busy season, you may need to use a large outer parking area and transfer by a free shuttle.
Parking, shuttles, and the entrance point depend on visitor flow, so do not apply off-season parking conditions to a holiday. Before leaving, confirm the shuttle pickup point and last service, then return to your vehicle.
High-speed rail and public transport
From Xianyou Station, take the K699 tourist line or a county bus to the scenic area. The journey takes about 1 hour and costs about CNY 15-25. You can also take Bus 551 from Putian to Xianyou Arts and Crafts Expo City and transfer to Bus 661. Confirm the last bus and holiday frequency for the day.
Public-transport visitors should pay particular attention to the sightseeing bus's last service at about 17:00, as public transport may finish earlier. A map's walking distance does not mean you can leave easily after missing the last transfer.
Know before you go
Wet paths and weather
Stone paving, steps, and bridges around the waterfalls can stay wet and become more slippery after rain. Wear non-slip sports shoes and bring rain protection. With older adults or children, do not let them stop in pools, at the base of waterfalls, or beside unrailed edges.
Water volume depends on rainfall and season. Waterfalls may weaken in dry periods, and rainbows, full-flow curtains, or a particular photograph are not guaranteed. Stop moving deeper into the area during thunderstorms, heavy rain, or flooded paths.
Last transport and closed routes
Entry usually stops at about 16:00 and the sightseeing bus's last service is about 17:00; public transport may end earlier. If you arrive late, first confirm how far you can walk, where to board, and when to return before deciding whether to buy a ticket or take the longer route.
Do not climb closed gates, barriers, or paths, and do not look for informal hiking routes or a shortcut between the two scenic areas. The current open route takes priority over completing a sightseeing checklist.
Supplies and clothing
There are small shops inside, but bring water and a small amount of food for a mountain day. Wear non-slip shoes and bring a light jacket and waterproof bag. Keep phones, cameras, and personal items away from flowing water and wet rock.
