A free temple and a separately ticketed martial-arts show
Quanzhou South Shaolin Temple is at No. 66 Dongyue Gudao Qian Street in Fengze District. The temple is free to enter and does not require a reservation; the martial-arts performance at the training hall is a separate ticketed product. Tickets cost CNY 50 for adults and CNY 25 for children, with children under 1 metre free. Ticket availability and showtimes should be confirmed for the day.
The temple is open from 09:00 to 17:00. The martial-arts show is usually one performance at 16:30 on weekdays, with a possible additional 11:00 show at weekends; each performance lasts about 30 minutes. These are planning references, not a promise of a daily fixed schedule.
Visit length and walking effort
Allow about 1.5 hours for the main buildings and the outside of the training hall. If you add Guanyin Pavilion, the martial-arts show, Wenshu Pavilion, Puxian Pavilion, the Sutra Repository and the rear path, allow 2.5–3 hours. The temple is built on a slope, with steps and some mossy stone surfaces.

Minnan temple architecture
South Shaolin suits visitors who want to see Minnan red-brick architecture, temple spaces and martial-arts culture. The gate, Hall of the Heavenly Kings, Mahavira Hall, old banyan tree and Guanyin Pavilion are the main stops. The single-piece wooden Guanyin in Guanyin Pavilion is another major indoor feature.
The martial-arts performance
The training hall may present Wuzu boxing, staff routines and other martial-arts pieces, with content and timing determined by the day's programme. It suits families and visitors interested in South Shaolin traditions, but admission to the temple does not include the training-hall ticket; do not arrive assuming that a show will be running.
Build your day
The 1.5-hour short route
Enter through the south gate, see the gate and red walls, then continue to the Hall of the Heavenly Kings and the Mahavira Hall before stopping outside the training hall and leaving. This suits visitors with limited time or those who do not plan to buy a performance ticket. There is no need to walk to the rear area simply to complete a checklist.
The 2.5–3-hour temple and martial-arts route
Start at the gate, Hall of the Heavenly Kings and Mahavira Hall, then continue to Guanyin Pavilion, the training hall, Wenshu Pavilion, Puxian Pavilion and the Sutra Repository. Add the rear path only if it is open. If you plan to watch the martial-arts show, arrive 20–30 minutes early because seating is first come, first served.
The rear pagoda forest is currently restricted for repairs. Do not list it as a normal stop or enter by an unmarked trail. The training hall and the rest of the temple may have different access arrangements, so confirm the performance time before fixing the route order.
Get there
Entrances and parking
Bus Route 41 stops at “Quanzhou Shaolin Temple.” A taxi from West Street takes about 15–20 minutes. For navigation, use “Quanzhou South Shaolin Temple” or “South Shaolin Temple Ruins/Training Hall,” then choose the south or west gate according to your approach.
There is parking at the temple, but spaces are limited and the charge and availability follow the on-site arrangement. You can also navigate to Wenwufang Underground Parking and walk about three minutes to the temple. When driving, confirm whether you are heading for the main gate or the training-hall side before reaching the foot of the hill.
Know before you go
Steps, strollers and hot water
The temple is built on a hillside, and some steps and stone paths can be slippery. Wear shoes with good grip. Strollers are difficult on some sections, so a carrier is more practical for young children. The manual tap in front of the training hall may still be very hot after the water is turned toward cold; check the temperature before using it.
Vegetarian meals at the temple require advance booking, so do not put a guaranteed on-site meal into the route. If you do not plan to eat there, carry water and arrange a meal in the city after leaving.
Performance and photography limits
Seating at the training hall is first come, first served. Do not use flash or drones during the performance. The rear area is under repair and must not be entered without permission; follow staff instructions for photography and movement.
